[IC] A Game of Pixies - D&D 5e

From the other side Tannyll yells, "You could tie it all together and we can slide it across with the rope."

[Feyblade]

"Can you tie one end to a tree?" She calls back. "I have more rope if we need it!"

[Lioslaith]

"Sure just add to your end and I'll drag it to one."

[Caterpie]

The paladin Chandra approaches the river bank and examines the lazy hippo, coming to the conclusion that it’s not affected by the red-eyed-anger that took over the apes from before.

The ranger Tannyll proposes a practical plan to move across the shambling bridge, using the ropes to assure some safety. He and Shamash tie their ropes together, preparing the cross.

While Chandra and Ora debate over what to do with their armors, the human paladin removes hers and the dragonborn keeps hers on.

The monk Mab taps one the bridge boards with her foot. The tiefling is so light that the apparently rotten plank doesn’t even squeak under her weight. She helps the rest of the party in tying the rope to a tree for more stability.

[Caterpie]

The ranger Tannyll is the first one across. The bridge squeaks and makes cracking sounds shaking slightly at each of the elf’s steps. But swiftly and gracefully, he makes it across carrying the rope to help the others.

Mab goes next. The monk could easily summersault her away across the crumbling bridge without it making a squeak, but perhaps this is not the time to showcase her dexterity.

Chandra is the third one across, grabbing tight on to the rope, the paladin makes it to the other side.

With the lighter members of the party safe on the north bank, Eli volunteers to go next, under the suspicious looks of Naruk and Ora.

Holding on to the rope, Eli takes only three steps into the bridge before the planks break beneath his feet! With a loud splashing sound the cleric falls in the river!!

And that’s when everyone realizes there was something lurking in the water…

One of the monsters in the water advances towards Eli! The creature briefly swims in the surface of the water and the party is able to see its form.

The monster is a small creature resembling a manta ray, but it has small clawed hands at the end of its “wings” and long barbed tails. It’s eyes are deep black, gleaming with sinister intelligence. The creatures speak with each other in a strange language, making it clear that they are communicating.

While the cleric Eli braces himself for an attack, the creature claws at the rope, attempting to cut the hero off from rescue.

After the failed attack, the manta ray monster dives to the bottom of the river, disappearing from sight, for now.

Figuring his odds of being able to hit one of those diving creatures is minimal Tannyll decides to haul on the rope to help get Eli across faster. He grabs and pulls hard to help.

The ranger Tannyll pulls on the rope, moving Eli closer to the north bank.

One of the manta-ray creatures swiftly swims up to Eli and attacks him! Unexplainably, a blinding flash of light shines from the cleric, disturbing the attack of the monster!

... If this works. Eli is using two diagonal movements to go around the wreckage and casts santactuary on himself if it looks like he is going to take more than one attack of opportunity. Move, then dash. Two diagonal squares, 4 vertical. To N26.

"I am not tasty!!"

Eli's light shifts to a rather frightened green and he starts swimming with a surprising speed (given his scrawny frame) towards the shore. Talking with him seemed to indicate that Eli had spent a great deal of time with undead. He didn't blink an eye fighting demon apes, a midnight ambush or a raging elephant... but apparently fish scared him.

Eli shakes some of water off as he steps onto land, then kisses the ground, his glow becoming sunny once more.

[Caterpie]

Fighting against the river currents, Eli is in the water surrounded by foes he can’t see clearly. His magic light turns into a protective aura to ward him against the attackers as the cleric swims back to shore!

Two of the manta-ray creatures attempt to slash the swimming hero with their barbed tails! But they must first resist the protective light of the sanctuary spell!

Still gasping from the swim, Eli addresses his companions.

"Killer... Fish... In the water.
We should get ready to shoot any that pop up as people cross."

The first manta-ray creature is strong-willed enough to go after the hero, but its attack is disrupted by a warding flash of light!
Meanwhile, the second monster, affected by the sanctuary spell, changes target attacking its own fellow manta-ray-monster instead of the cleric! With a powerful whip of the barbed-tail, you hear the creature screech in agony, even from below the murky waters.

Eli Stone manages to make it back to the south shore and is safely out of the water. With no victims to chew on, the monsters dive down to the bottom of the river. Combat is over and the heroes are safe!

Combat is over, but the party faces a new dilemma: The group is split at opposing banks of the river with nothing but a mangled bridge to get them across. If they travel east or west, there could be another crossing, but it could delay the journey significantly.

Chandra talks to Tannyll and Mab.
“We could follow each other along the river but if either side encounters a foe, we would be at a disadvantage. I suggest they crossing again.

Eli takes a brief moment to gasp for air, then turns back to the bridge.

"I've got to cross before my defensive ward runs out. Please cover me!"

With that, he warily steps back on the bridge. Eli keeps his eyes peeled and tries to nimbly avoid the weak spots in the structure.

Eli crosses safely, getting to the other side!

While Chandra and the other heroes try to think of a solution to get the heavy members of the party across the river, the nearby hippo takes pity on the stranded adventurers. With a powerful push, the beast swims to the south bank, splashing water on everyone, getting near Ora and Shamash.

The evil manta-ray monsters appear to be afraid of the hippo. Maybe the aquatic animal has eaten one of two of them and so the monsters learned not to mess with it.

With a friendly snoring sound, the hippo squishes just a splash of water on the heavy heroes and turns around, as if inviting them to hop on. One by one, the adventurers are safely ferried across the murky waters and reunited with the light heroes of the group.

Satisfied with a job well done, the friendly hippo swims off, disappearing in the horizon.




And so, the party carries on with their journey, heading to the bugbear forest to find the star that fell from the skies.
They travel for another hour before the sun starts to set.

Finding a safe place to camp, the heroes unload the weight of their gear, start a fire and share a meal of elephant stakes, monkey barbecue and leftover pigeon roast. It is impossible not to think of how bizarre these two days of travelling have been. Between fighting apes, bugbears, an elephant.. even weird flying creatures made of dust.. The group of adventurers have discovered new abilities within themselves and new friends in their companions.

As the sun sets, it is already possible to see the tree line, far in the distance. The forest should be less than 10 miles away from here and could be reached tonight, if the group wanted to travel in the dark. But from what the heroes have experienced this far, it is wise to camp and travel in the light of day.


And so, after dividing up the duties of camp guard, the party gets some well-deserved rest.



Morning comes quick and with it comes heavy showers of rain. This is not uncommon for mid-spring, but it is still inconvenient and uncomfortable to march wearing wet socks.

Following on the old poorly-kept road, the party reaches the forest. With beautiful tall trees greeting the heroes, the road ends in a clearing that turns into a narrow trail path, forcing the adventurers to march in a single file line.

“A little rain doesn’t hurt while we travel, just have to be more observant. Let’s continue my friends.”

Eli will march second, humming and occasionally saying the words to what seems to be a children's rhym about the different types of undead.

Tannyll is happy to take the lead.

The group of adventuring heroes keep following the trail in the woods under heavy rain, enduring Eli’s songs about zombies and skeletons. Some of the party members regret not hiring a skilled bard, but still they press forward.

They travel for approximately 15 miles, advancing through the thick undergrowth when, suddenly, the monotony of the march is broken by a high-pitch war cry!

“Invaders in our holy land! Kill them!”

“Be careful, Prince Anwar, they took an elvish prisoner! Let’s not hurt our forest-brother by mistake.”
(only Tannyll understands sylvian)

Four tiny flying creatures materialize out of thin air, surrounding the party and catching the heroes by surprise!
They resemble elves, but have dragonfly wings and colourful bright eyes burning with hatred. The tiny forest warriors are armed with bows, swords and wearing tiny hamster-hide armors. And they attack!

Eli’s armor protects him from the sprite’s attack, but Mab, Chandra and Ora are pierced by the tiny arrows!

The three heroes feel the sting of something poisonous in the projectiles, but they resist the effect.

One of the sprites, a female with bright green eyes and wild purple hair, shoots another arrow against Eli before flying to a safe spot behind a tree.

Will Eli use his warding flare to impose disadvantage on this attack?

[Caterpie]

As the tiny winged fey shoots an arrow, Eli’s protective light explodes in a blinding flash, disrupting the attacker!

“Eeek!”

The fey creature misses her shot! The cleric Eli is safe from the tiny poisoned arrow.

HOLD! Please, hold! I am no prisoner, these are my companions. We wish you no harm! We are on a quest and did not mean to tresspass! Tannyll yells out as he walks more into the open, bow still slung across his back, hands up not threatening. He will repeat the same phrase in Sylvan in case the creatures don’t speak common.

[Caterpie]

One of the sprites claims: “Prince Anwar, don’t be fooled! The demon-frog takes many forms, it could be a ruse!”

To which the leader replies: “Stay your bow, Jussara.. Let us allow the elf to explain himself.”

The apparent leader of the fey turns to Tannyll and says in the common tongue:

“If you speak the truth, order your allies to drop their weapons and step forward, forest-brother.”

"Hold everyone. We are of the same purpose here. Please put down your weapons." Tannyll says to the rest of his group.

Shamash listens to Tannyll, since Eli already took it easy, and rests his greatsword on a shoulder but he looks at creatures, expecting trouble unless it's proven there will be none. Quietly he asks Chandra (since she is closest to him) "What just happend my friend?"

[Whit]

“These little fairies attacked us, but I think Tannyll speaks their language, so I hopes we shall come to an agreement. it sounds Elvish. I would worry more of their poison than the weapon my friend.”

[Caterpie]

“Greetings, elf. I’m Prince Anwar, sovereign ruler of this forest and fey realms beyond. I will speak in the common tongue of your world, so that your allies may understand.”

The sprite hovers near Tannyll, he has fair skin and short brown hair. The sprite’s eyes shine with a bright green color as he speaks:

“Our forest faces a great menace in the hands of the tongue-stealer and most of our brothers and sisters have been slain. We four are the last guardians of our holy land. I apologise for our hastiness in attacking, but I hope you understand our perilous situation. Trust is a luxury we can’t afford.”

Reaching out his index finger, the sprite touches Tannyll’s forehead.

“If you’ll allow me, I have the power to read the truth out of your heart. It will cause you no harm and my allies will do the same to your friends, if they agree.”


A female sprite with purple hair, dark tanned skin and green eyes approaches the barbarian Shamash. She opens her hands in a peaceful gesture and reaches out to touch the white dragonborn’s face.

Will Shamash allow the sprite’s touch?


“Pleased to meet you, I’m Jussara.” A flying sprite with fluttering wings materializes right next to Mab. “Will you allow me to read the emotions in your heart?” She asks reaching for Mab’s forehead. The sprite named Jussara has tanned skin, long dark blue hair and hazel-colored eyes.


“Gideon is my name.” One of the sprites rushes towards Eli. “I’m not one for talking much.” He has tanned skin, brown eyes and his hair is long and bright red. “Do you agree to let me know your true motives?” He reaches to touch Eli.

Eli nods, then leans forward and whispers.

"Seek to change them, though, and this will be a short conversation indeed."

[Lioslaith]

Tannyll leans forward in a slight bow and maintains the bow through the princes introduction. "We too seek to end the menace of this ... tongue stealer ... some have called it a frog demon?" As the sprite reaches for his forehead he does not flinch. "This forest has suffered a great loss with the demise of you're kin, I am saddened by this news."

[Mihatronix]

Shamash will not back away, he is curious about these creatures and magic does kind of fascinate him, but he will stay cautious since he does not know what to expect.

[Feyblade]

Mab flinches back a bit--clearly wary at this whole situation. She will not try to prevent any contact though if they really just want to be cautious and make sure that the party isn't hostile.

"I--uh---sure?"

[Whit]

“I will go along with what my companions are doing... in good faith; but your unprovoked attack on us does not sit lightly with me.”

"Well, it seems this event was a bit of a misunderstanding. I would suggest letting the fey touch your hearts, as a sign of good faith and trust."

[Caterpie]

The sprite briefly touches your forehead and you feel the strange sensation of revisiting your oldest memories.

“Huh, so you’re a good guy.” An awkward moment of silence passes before the fey creature says “Sorry for shooting arrows at you.”

The sprite hands a tiny red acorn to Eli. It is bright red and warm to the touch.

“If you get in trouble, just break the acorn. I’ll come and help. Oh, by the way, you’re blessed with my special Charm.”

Having said that, the sprite flies over to see Ora.


Eli is granted the Charm of Animal Conjuring! As an action, Eli can cast the spell “conjure animals”. Once he uses this trait, he must finish a long rest before using it again.

The prince of the sprites touches Tannyll’s forehead reading the emotions from the elf’s heart. The ranger gets the strange feeling of revisiting old memories and reliving the sorrow and hardship of his early years that shaped Tannyll into the elf he is today.
The memory of the arrow hitting the bugbear Homera right in the head flashes before Tannyll’s eyes and the sprite sheds a few tears whispering “She was hurt, confused...” the fey creature removes his hand from the ranger and says.

“I see it clearly now that you are not an agent of evil and so I apologize for our rushed judgment. But the good in you is all but lost.. You may be an elf, and you’ll be allowed passage in our holy land. But we shall not be brothers.”

With those final words, the sprite flies over to Chandra, to read her heart and emotions.

The sprite introduces herself as Malikka and Shamash finds the experience of having his heart read a very soothing thing. His mind wanders back to his childhood with his clans and the hard lessons the elders imposed on the young dragonborn. He remembers his parents and brothers and the beautiful white snow of his far far homelands.

Malikka says “I apologize for my attack, I was rushed to judge you for your appearance.”

She hands Shamash a tiny purple acorn, in the color of her hair, and says:

“I shall be your ally, and your guide. As long as I live, you shall be blessed with my charm and if you ever find yourself in danger, just break the acorn and I’ll appear to help.”

Shamash gets the Blessing of Understanding, his wisdom score permanently increases +2.

“Thanks, kid. This will take but a moment” She says cheerfully.

Reading Mab’s heart causes a strange feeling. The monk’s mind goes back to her childhood and the hardship of life at the monastery. She remember her old friends and a deep feeling of longing takes over her.

The sprite says “You are a tiefling with a beautiful heart and I shall be pride to call you my ally.” She hands Mab a tiny bright green acorn and says “If you need my help, just break this acorn and I’ll come to your aid. As long as I live, you’ll be blessed with my faerie sight, this is my pledge to you.”

Faerie sight: Mab’s darkvision is now extended to 120ft. She can see the invisible and cast the spell detect magic as an action up to three times per long rest.

The leader sprite flies over to Chandra and apologizes: “I see now the hastiness of our attack was wrong, and I’ll hope you’ll forgive us for the harm we caused. My name is Prince Anwar, and I see you are truly an agent for good in this world. With your permission, I’ll be your ally and extend my blessing to you.”

He hands you a tiny acorn, black as the night.

“If you need assistance, break the acorn and I’ll come to your aid.”

Chandra gets the blessing of wound closure! Whenever you start a turn with 0 HP, you immediately get stable. Also, every time you roll hit dice to recover HP in a short rest, you regain double the result of each roll.

One of the sprites approaches Ora. He briefly introduces himself as Gideon and asks permission to touch Ora’s head to read her emotions. The sprite’s hair is a strong shade of red, almost burning like fire and she feels warmth coming from the tiny fey creature.

Tannyll nods his head to the sprite, "I understand fey-prince and I thank you." But... he should have left it there, should have remained quiet, but then he wouldn't have been Tannyll. He continues in Sylvan, "Ia eisi vol, voli, shi eisi byr shyraes. Sher Ai mar byr vaelaes bedaestael ol o eil shar vaestal os os vaedi thys ei moli eis sajael ail tystar sharaer ol ei paelorol syri shys Ai pai tar shyraes..."

"You are right, prince, we are not brothers. But I shall not render judgement on you and what remains of your people for a single act taken in combat based on a decision to protect those whom I do call brother..."

[Whit]

Chandra blushes and smiles as she brushes her golden locks back when given the acorn gift.

“Thank you...Prince. Our path lies through your kingdom your highness, If allies we are, could you provide us safe passage through your land? We travel the direction of the falling star and it seems this tongue creature is more truth than legend.

“I swear by Torm to aid your people with my blade and strength when possible.”

Eli nods.

"Worry not, my friend. This wouldn't be the first time this sort of thing has happened. I thank you for the boon and will wear it proudly."

Shamash feels strange "Well..thank you little one"
He is confused, feeling good as he does, considering his friends were attacked just a moment a go and he was ready to cut them all for that. He doesn't understand why they don't like Tannyll, he is the first to call him friend after he departed from his homeland and a great tracker and hunter. He is always ready for anything and Shamash kind of sees him as his superior 'cause of that, maybe even something like his older brother or something similar.

[Caterpie]

The prince of the sprites, Anwar, hears the words of the elf Tannyll paying careful attention. The ranger’s speech, although heartfelt, doesn’t change the little fey’s attitude towards the pragmatic hero.

The sprite introduces himself as Gideon. He bears bright red long hair and deep green eyes. Ora finds the creature silent and shy as he reads the emotions from the dragonborn’s heart. Gideon looks surprised as he says: “There is much good in you. I shall be your ally.” The tiny creature hands ora a diminutive red accord that feels warm to the touch. “If you need me, just break this acorn and I’ll come to your aid.”

The tiny creature starts to vanish, as if dissolving from this realm and returning to the fey wild, and he adds:
“As long as I live, you will be blessed with my charm.”

Ora is granted the charm of animal conjuring! As an action, she can cast the spell “conjure animals”. Once this trait is used, she must finish a long rest before using it again.

Prince Anwar gives you a long serious look before saying: "I would advise against seeking the starfell diamond. It’s powers are too great for any of us to hold and dark forces will be after it. But if you insist, lady Chandra, just follow the trees with the dark blue moss. They’ll lead you into the bugbear village. They are the ones who have the diamond."



After this strange encounter, the sprites bid the heroes farewell and disappear out of thin air. Mab is the only one that sees them, fluttering wings flying through the thick of the forest. Now the group of adventurers are in the middle of the bugbear forest and the fun is about to set.

The heavy rain that fell throughout the day gives way to a light breeze as the group of adventurers need to decide whether to camp or press on through the night in search of the star that fell from the skies.

“Well my friends. It seems the fairy prince believes the bugbears already have the star diamond and other dark forces are seeking it as well. As for the star being to powerful fir anyone to control; one thing is sure, better for it not to be in dark hands. We must follow the dark blue moss on trees to the bugbear village. Shout we crest and make plans?”

"If no one needs rest then it is probably best if we move on. If we surprise them at night it might be easier to take them." Tannyll offers.

[Caterpie]

After short deliberation, the party decides to press forward, carefully following the trees marked with the blue moss.

The heavy rain has passed and the journey through the woods is not nearly as harrowing as some of the heroes had thought it would be.

The party travels for about an hour until, suddenly...

She's not sure if Bugbears are nocturnal--or if it's a good idea for them to be charging in without much planning. But Mab follows the lead of the others, keeping an eye out for danger.

The party marches through the forest, following the trees marked with the blue moss, searching for the bugbear forest.

And then suddenly they are caught in an ambush!! A bunch of frog-like humanoids covered in mud jump down from trees, rise up from water puddles or crawl out from behind trees throwing javelins at the heroes!!

Without any good targets in sight, Ora will move close to the monk Mab and hurl a javelin at one of the bullywugs (the ugly one) hiding behind a tree.

The frog-like creature is hit in the chest by the javelin and falls dead to the muddy grounds!


On the other side of the map, one of the foes (Billy) jumps with surprising agility over the top of a tree and lands right next to the elf Tannyll, attacking him with a bite and a spear!

Eli nimbly dashes past Chandra and Tannyl, then lets an almost unbearable flash of radiance erupt from him.

[Caterpie]

The strange man, Eli Stone, lets out a radiant flash of light that envelops the two monsters near him. The creatures suffer a great amount of damage, but somehow survive the magical attack!

One of the monstes (Bully) attacks the cleric Eli with a bite and spear.

The monster misses the bite attack, and as the spear attack aims right at the cleric's stomach, a warding flare forces the enemy to miss!! It then runs up north seeking cover behind a tree! (Eli gets one attack of opportunity)


Another one (Bug-eye) jumps over a tree and attacks Chandra with a javelin! But it misses the throw entirely.

Mab narrows her eyes, ducking back around trees and stepping through high grass to attack another anemy.

I would like to move Vertically to J14 (25ft), Horizonally to K 14(5ft), Diagonally to L13(5ft), then Horizontally to M13(5ft) If that movement pattern isn't allowed--I dont mind spending a Ki point to Dash.

From there, i'd like to attack Jumpy--

Meanwhile, The tiefling Mab lands a strong blow against the bullywug facing her!! But she fails to connect with the second attack, leaving an opening that the monster attempts to take advantage of!

The bronze dragonborn, Ora, having killed the enemy close to her, moves up north and unleashes her dreaded lightning breath upon an unsuspecting bullywug! (billy)

The creature must pass a constitution saving throw 1d20+1 (DC14) or suffer: [roll0] lightning damage!!

To Ora’s astonishment, the frog-like creature tries to jump over her breath-weapon, but the lightning is too strong and it hits the mark just enough to electrocute the bullywug to death!

All of Tannyll’s hairs are raised by the electricity so near to him, but with Ora killing the adjacent foe, the expert archer is free to fire at bug-eye! The arrow flies swiftly through the air and hits the target on its neck!! “Blliuughh!!” the creature exclaims as blood and some weird gunk squishes out of the wound.

Bug-eye is severely wounded, but still fighting.

Swinging her flail violently, the paladin Chandra Thule crushes the evil Bullywug with a deadly blow! The creature is reduced to an undistinguishable pile of green gore in the swampy terrain.

The cleric Eli Stone, on his turn, summons the light energy from the positive plane and hurls a flame of pure light into the enemy, killing the creature instantaneously!

A single enemy is left standing in the muddy battlegrounds: the strong-legs Jumpy bullywug, who is engaged in combat with Mab. The tiefling monk is hurt and in dire situation if the monster strikes her again.

Tannyll manages to make it to the rest of the group as they gather. "Things like this will generally have their own language, does anyone happen to speak it?"

Chandra weakly smiles as she flings her damp hair out of her face in an attempt to seem less hurt than she appears.

She walks to Mab whose appearance seems hurt most.

“Let the power of my god heal your wounds Mab. Your bravery has not gone unnoticed.”



Chandra then asks Torm for strength to continue in this quest.
“Great Torm, you have healed my friend and ally to continue this noble quest, if I have proven worthy as well, grant me strength to continue.”

"'m not brave." She mumbles as she straightens up--but she gladly accepts the healing with a small smile. Glancing back at the fallen enemies, she tries to think about the best ways to get information from them (and to recall if they even speak goblinoid in the first place.)

"Do we know anything about this village we're going into? We don't know where the meteorite is--how guarded it will be or even if the people there are nocturnal or not. We need--" A breath. "We need a plan."
