Looking at the warforged - in the campaign setting section covering warforged components, it says: A warforged component usually occupies the same space on the body that a magic item of the same kind normally would. Components that do not occupy any space on the body cost twice what they would cost as ordinary magic items.

So does that mean that any magic item can be made a component, and any published component takes a slot but can be made slotless by doubling the cost?

So a Battle Fist takes the hands slot normally, allowing the wielding of weapons and holding things. If you double the cost, they no longer take the hands slot and would allow magic gloves to be worn as well?

Yes. This is exactly how it works. You can also make warforged component portable holes and bags of holding.

This is how a Fighter casts hoard gullet.

Additionally, if your GM runs with the ruling that Constructs are Magic Items then you could also incorporate other Constructs.

Had a blast with a warforged Spellthief who had a Spider Thief (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20061009a) in his left hand.
And another Warforged who had several Spellsong Nightingales (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20070115a) across her back.

Also consider that Intelligent Magic Items could be components leading to interesting moments of dialogue to be sure.

Use UMD for nonwarforged to make use of slotless warforged components.
