The more casual, the better!

A few examples:

- A shaggy dog passes you
- Smell of broth reaches you from one of the houses
- Sound of wooden hammer hitting something hard
- A small boy sits in an apple tree, picking his nose

Add more, I'd really appreciate it.

- A child is hiding behind you in a hide-and-seek game
- Two teenagers are kissing behind a tree
- A baby is screaming
- Someone is cursing heavily nearby
- A smell of rotten leaves
- Creaking floorboards
- Someone yells "pow! you're dead!"
- Random laughter
- An old man with a limp crosses the street

There's a small Pop! from a nearby apothecary's.

A drunk man yells at you.

A beggar asks for a few coins.

A child asks their parent for a treat from a nearby market stall.

A gentle breeze blows past you.

A man walking towards you waves, but after you make eye contact, you realize he was waving past you and you both shudder briefly to dispel the awkward tension.

Church bells ring softly in the distance.

You hear birds singing and chirping in the meadow nearby.

- hearing the hammering of a blacksmith
- a passing cart splashing mud over you

- Two teenagers are kissing behind a tree

Shouldn't that be in a tree? Or would that be too on-the-nose?

The acrid smell of peasants outside of a weaver's house waiting their turn to urinate

The pungent smell of a gong farmer leading his mule-cart around to collect yesterday's night soil

Peasants gathered around the communal ovens waiting for their turn to bake bread

A pair of peasants arguing about how best to fix their broken-down cart

A trio of peasants locked in a pillory. pieces of rotted fruit and excrement lay all around them. (bonus points for using a "barrel pillory")

A herdsman leading his flock through the town

Probably the most positive and relaxing thread in the forum so far. Congrats.

By the way, just out of curiosity, is your idea to enrich your descriptions, or to serve red herrings?

Thanks for answers :) I want to flesh out the village, my PCs are starting in.

Let me add a family of hedgehogs crossing the village dirt road. :D

Maybe a peasant woman chasing and decapitating chicken to cook them later.

Or a group of peasants slaughtering a pig or a goat.

Or a fisherman hanging fishes to dry in the wind and sun.

Maybe some women sorting through tomatoes to dry them in the sun.

Several peasants in a big wooden basin trampling on grapes to make wine.

Someone repairing their roof and accidentally dropping a roof tile that shatters on the ground in front of your players.

- A group of young children are playing a game of tag.
- A very large orange cat rubs up against your leg purring.
- A little girl walks by carrying a cat in that way small children carry cats.

- You hear a mother calling her children home for dinner

- A villager is pulling water from the well while another is quietly chatting/exchanging rumors with her

- 2 peasants are coming back from the fields. The younger one is laugthing at something the other one (his father?) just said.

- It just started raining. Just a light drizzle that muffles the surrounding sounds

- The rain just ended. Everything smells fresh and new (including the pigsty just next door)

- It's blackberry season. 2 children are picking and eating the fruits from a bramble covering an old wall, but have trouble reaching the top ones

- A villager is rethatching his roof

- Birds are chirping from the thicket that covers the ruins of an old, abandoned house

- A goat crosses the street in front of you
- A pig is squealing somewhere close by
- A little boy is herding some cows (or sheep or goats) across the path towards the meadow, you have to wait until they've passed
- A dog growls, then starts barking as you walk along the wall of a compound, the barking continues until you reach the next farm
- You inadvertently step into d6 dung (1-2 cow, 3 horse, 4 goat, 5 pig, 6 sheep - tables can be adapted and extended).
- In a nearby yard geese are making loud noises at your approach
- You see one dog vigorously "pushing" another dog
- a little child is crouching and defecating by the side of the road
- a donkey stands in the middle of the road, refusing to move

A kid with a stick for a wand challenges your mage to a duel.

A child informs you that everybody knows that witch put a hex on the village and caused the blight.

An older woman in the tavern tells you that Betsy Smith's husband didn't die of the fever like she claims; Betsy murdered him in his sleep.

One of the men in town whispers that the new priest has half the young women in town spellbound.

You see the town drunk get thrown out of the tavern. He sees you, and comes over to tell you he has a treasure hidden deep in the woods. If you'll help him get it, you can have a share.

There's always intriguing (and false) rumors flying around a small town.

An old woman casuall spins a chicken by its neck then sets it on the log to decapitate it. It seems to effectively prevent the chicken from running rampant while headless.

A baby bird falls out of it’s nest in a nearby tree.

A crowd of peasants surrounds a disheveled looking woman, they are jeering at her and throwing rotten fruits at her.

A few gritty options

There must be a talented milliner living here. Where else could the people get such fine hats? Also works with a cobbler and shoes, or perhaps a barber and hairstyles.
The village is home to a large dairy, and all the townsfolk smell of cheese.

A priest or salesman is making a pitch for what he's selling. Two priests or salespeople are trying to show each other up with increasingly outrageous pitches.

A group of kids are sitting around an old woman as she tells them stories.
Three men are standing around a wagon with a broken wagon arguing over how it broke
Two hunters are walking by carrying a wild boar on sticks
A young woman is chasing a chicken that's gotten out of her coup
Some guy chopping wood whistling a tune to himself
A boy chasing after his dog playfully
The town minstril is playing a jaunty tune with a young couple dancing to it
A young boy trying to push a wheel barrow filled with goods while his father is sternly watching and giving advice
A little girl is watching over her father as he smiths tools, learning his trade
Three old men sitting at a table playing cards talking about old urban legends of the surrounding area
A young woman walks by with a cow, selling its milk

You walk past a pear tree with a partridge in it.

You walk past two turtle doves.

You see three French hens pecking on the ground.

You hear four calling birds.

You see a large, loud crowd. They seem to be fighting over something they've just found.
