Hi all,

Wonder if anyone knows of a good LA +1 or LA +2 race that gains a bonus to INT and/or CHA.

It also has to be a race that isn't adverse to living in the desert, so no aquatic races or cold dwellers.

Cheers - T

The LA+1 dromite (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicRaces.htm#dromites) has you covered for a bonus to charisma, and is a typically desert-dwelling creature (I think?).

Grey Elf: +2 int, dex. -2 con, str.

Aasimar: +1 LA, +2 wis, cha

I believe drow get both don't they? At least the females used to...

If you don't mind going to LA +3, Sweetlings (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Sweetlings_%28DnD_Race%29) are someone's creation that give +6 INT, +6 CHA, +2 WIS, -4 STR and -4 CON, with a shapechange ability.

Grey Elves have no LA.

So a Phrenic (template, XPH) Grey Elf would get +4 INT and CHA, +2 WIS and DEX, -2 STR and CON, 1 power point, Power Resistance = HD +10, and psi-like abilities based on your level.
And it's still not worth it for a spellcaster.

Races of Dragons has the Spellscale, which gets +2cha, -2con, low-light vision, dragonblood, and a daily bonus to various skill tjecks, and access to metamagic feats x/day.

Fire Hobgoblins (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#fireHobgoblins) get a nice +2 to int in addition to the +2 to Con and Dex. Penalty to Cha, though.

And while not a race the mage blooded template gives you -2 Wis and +2 Cha with no LA. I cant remember what book I saw it in though...

Dragon #306. The details are also in the 3.0 Templates PDF on Crystalkeep. It's a racial template that can be applied to any race with no level adjustment (LA +0). This allows you to do things like:

Magic-Blooded Grey Elf: +2 Dex, +2 Int, +2 Cha, -2 Str, -2 Con, -2 Wis
Magic-Blooded Fire Elf: +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Con, -2 Wis, Fire Resistance 5
Magic-Blooded Sun Elf: +2 Int, +2 Cha, -2 Con, -2 Wis
Magic-Blooded Star Elf: +4 Cha, -2 Con, -2 Wis
Magic-Blooded Spellscale: +4 Cha, -2 Con, -2 Wis
Magic-Blooded Lesser Fire Genasi: +2 Int, -2 Wis
Magic-Blooded Lesser Aasimar: +4 Cha
Magic-Blooded Lesser Tiefling: +2 Dex, +2 Int, +2 Cha, -2 Wis

And all of these are LA +0.

(There is a Desert racial template in the same article, but it doesn't effect ability scores, mostly just gives some skill bonuses and changes your preferred class to ranger, which can be useful if you're running into multiclass penalties.)

You can also avoid LAs by taking racial template levels, and either level up your racial abilities when convenient or just focus on class levels. On the Wizards site:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a

Also, same link, page down and consider the Half-Fey template. For LA +2 or two racial levels, you get +2 Dex, +2 Wis, +4 Cha, -2 Con, immunity to enchantment, charm person at will, several other spell-like abilities, and flight (speed = double land movement).

as much as they are horrible for stereotypical reasons, drow get +2 int cha and dex.

IIRC, Spellscales get +2Cha, -2Con, and they have the Blood Quickening meditations, which they can use to better cast their arcane spells. Makes a tasty sorcerer.

Someone seems to have forgotten the basic Tiefling. +2 Int, but -2 Cha.

I think he was looking for something which boosts either one or both with no detriment to the other.

Magic-Blooded Lesser Aasimar: +4 Cha
Magic-Blooded Lesser Tiefling: +2 Dex, +2 Int, +2 Cha, -2 Wis

And all of these are LA +0.

Those two are obscene.

Venerable Kobold with the Dragonwrought feat. Dragonwrought Kobolds don't take the penalties of aging, but get the bonuses, so you've got +3 Int/Wis/Cha in addition to the normal Kobold goodies.

DR 313 pg 166 has 'Death-Touched', one of my favorite LA +1 templates. -2 con, +2 wis, +4 cha.

Cold and Electricity resistance 5, chill touch 1/day at CL...a few other nifty things too

Oh, and don't forget the Ogre Mage!

The level adjustment's not that much higher than what you mentioned, right?

...Right?
