The Mordenkainen's showed us the 5e version of the Nagpa, as a bunch of ancient Wizards turned into bird monsters by the Raven Queen, and cursed to only be able to learn from the ruins of cities, civilisations, etc.

Meanwhile, Liches can be centuries-or-millenia-old, and are known to hold knowledge from dead societies (be they the last representative of said society or it being things they took from the empires that rose and fell during the time of their Undeath).

So, why wouldn't a Nagpa hires some adventurers to "clear the world of such a nasty monster", with a big reward to get them to leave ASAP once the Lich is dealt for good, with for goal to grab the Lich's research, documents, items, etch once it's done?

Even if Nagpa would have troubles challenging a Lich in raw power, the old birds are very good at staying alive despite their mortality and acting like masterminds. Finding a Lich and their phylactery wouldn't be that incredible, compared to the schemes the Nagpas are said to be able to pull.

What do you think? Does it inspire you any ideas?

Monster vs monster is a fun start to think of a scenario, I think.
