Arcane Ward and Higher Level Slots

Maybe it's because I just dove into this, but: if I cast Mage Armor (or any other abjuration) using a higher level slot, does my ward recover based on the original level of the spell or the level of slot I use to cast the spell.

In other words: if I cast Mage Armor with a 3rd level slot, does my ward recover 2 points or 6 points?
