View Full Version : Trying to Gather Races for More Player Choice

Hey ya’ll,

I’m a big fan of lots of players choice, and I’ve started collecting all the races and subclasses I can from all official sources (I own all the books) and assembling them in binders to make it easier to keep track of. I’ve transcribed all the races from books for this purpose, including things like duergar and eladrin, and at this point, thought I had pretty much gathered them all. Then, someone reminded me of the planeshift races! Currently in the process of transcribing those now.

Are there any other semi-official sources for races I’m missing? I might dig through unearthed arcana to see if any of those are worth my time. Any good third party sources for races? I find it VERY difficult to find homebrew races that aren’t absurd.

Do you have Tortles? They are official. Also Grung's are semi-official.

Southland Heroes by Kobold Press is pretty decent and has a few new races that aren't official.

Without a list of what you've already gathered, it's difficult to tell you what you've missed. :P

Have you got Tortle? There's also One Grung Above (http://www.dmsguild.com/product/223738/One-Grung-Above-5e) which is not AL legal, but is published by Wizards.

Sorry! I have,
-All Official Books Except MTOF
-Including SCAG Half Elf Subraces, Eladrin, Duergar, etc
-All monstrous races included in VGTM
-Tortle
-All Races included in Planeshift documents

Considering coming through UA for other races, willing to look into DM’s Guild entries and I’ve heard a lot of good about Kobold Press.

I'm assuming you haven't bought MTOF if you don't have the races from that, but as far as I'm aware the Tiefling subraces in that are just about identical to how they appeared in the Fiendish Options UA (there may be some small changes, I'm not sure off the top of my head).

UA has, as far as I recall, Centaurs and Minotaurs (https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/UA-Centaur.pdf), Gith and Eladrin (https://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/UA-Eladrin-Gith.pdf), which are in tome of foes, a bunch of elf subraces (https://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/UA-ElfSubraces.pdf), including Sea Elf and Shadar-Kai, both of which are in Tome of Foes, Tiefling variants (https://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/UA_FiendishOptions.pdf), which are in Tome of Foes, another Tiefling variant (https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/07_UA_That_Old_Black_Magic.pdf), another Minotaur (https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/UA_Waterborne_v3.pdf), and I think that's all of them?

If you're willing to look through homebrew, I recommend Middle Finger of Vecna's races (http://mfov.magehandpress.com/search/label/Race?max-results=100), and, of course, my own. (https://blackbando.wordpress.com/category/races/)

Hopefully I've saved you a lot of time combing through UA and brew!

There is also the changeling, shifter, and warforged from the Eberron UA https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/UA_Eberron_v1.pdf

Ahh, drat, I knew I was forgetting some! The ironic thing is that I love playing warforged and changelings, too!

Why not just give your players a link to 5etools?

Ah! Thanks everyone for the entries, I had nearly forgotten a few myself! I look forward to getting MTOF now that I realize how many options it presents. One more thing I haven’t heard mentioned, how much of Elemental Evil was reprinted elsewhere? I can’t remember if Goliaths got a reprint or not, and what else was included in it.

Goliath was reprinted in Volo's, Deep Gome also appears in SCAG, most of the spells ended up in Xanathar's, other than that I don't think there have been any other reprints of EE content.

There's also the EE player's guide thingy (available as a free PDF download and AL-okay) that has the genasi and aarakocra in it.
