Sadly Luciano Pavarotti died this week at the age of 71 from a battle with pancreatic cancer, his voice will be missed.

I went into full mourning when he died. It really created a buzz when I brought the news the day after to my English class, where a pathetically small amount of people reacted strongly to it. I had one day wished to see him, as well.

I mean, of all the tenors of the world, he really was the best. Domingo or Carreras really weren't even close to his level. And when he paired with Joan Sutherland, the world of Opera was made whole.

Drinks were had in his name last night. And we listened to my entire vinyl pav collection like 400 times. We'll miss him.

RIP big guy.

I think it's a mark of just how famous Pavarotti was, that an uncultured philistine like myself read this post, and am able to respond without having to check who he was.

Such a shame.. he was a truly great man, and musician.

*sighs* Indeed. No one could sing like he could, really. He just had that voice that was the flawless epitome of the operatic tenor, while still being incredibly unique.

I am by no means a fan of opera. Yet he was a great. MHRIP.

The loss of an artist of his calibre is always a tragedy. We shall always remember the songs he sung, and the ones he never had a chance to sing.

I was amazed to find out that he was 71 years old. Either I haven't seen a recent picture in a long while or he aged very well.

I really felt this death. His rendition of Nessum Dorma is what drew me into loving opera.

Sadly I was just beginning to discover the world of Opera when he passed. His work is truly inspiring. He will be missed.
