How does this side-bar information interact with PHB+1?

Does this act as a build Variant that invokes SCAG as your “+1” source?

I'm pretty sure it DOES consume your resource. It's like Tiefling Subraces from Mordy's it's a variant, but from an extra book.

Sadly the more rule books that come out the tougher it's going to get. Think about when the Psion/Mystic books comes out. PHB +1, how can there be a Gith Psion for starters.

Maybe they'll reprint the Gith in the Psionics book.

Maybe this is their dastardly plan to make people happy about buying reprints.
