Hey there, I am playing a Wizard in an upcoming game. I can't find any hard rules on this so I thought I would ask around here. So my current level distribution is looking like 3 Wizard 5 Red Wizard 10 Master Specialist and 2 Archmage. I am playing an Evocation specialist.

I've got two questions. Firstly will the Magic Blooded template's +2 Spellcraft make me eligible for Red Wizard at level 2? Secondly if not can I pick up Master Specialist for levels 4 and 5, level up is Red Wizard five times, then return to Master Specialist without penalty?

Thanks in advance.

Prereqs care about actual ranks, not bonuses. Unless that template gives you extra actual ranks, it won’t help you qualify early.

It’s totally legal, barring a class-specific rule to the contrary, to enter one PrC, take some levels, enter a second PrC, then return to the first one. Even if your GM uses multiclassing penalties for some reason, PrCs explicitly never cause multiclass penalties, so that’s not a concern either.

Awesome. :D It is hard for me to tell if it is a plus 2 bonus or actual ranks. It just says '+2 Knowledge (arcana), +2 Spellcraft, Both usable untrained'. My best guess is that it is just a bonus, but it doesn't say bonus, it just says skills. Given that it is a template maybe it is ranks instead, it reads more like a monster entry than an ability that Grant's a bonus.

"If you buy a class skill, your character gets 1 rank (equal to a +1 bonus on checks with that skill) for each skill point. If you buy other classes’ skills (cross-class skills), you get ½ rank per skill point."SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/skillsSummary.htm)
Generally, speaking, ranks are something you purchase with skill points. Everything else, unless it specifically states it grants ranks, is just a bonus. Primary Contact (Cityscape 61) is the only thing I can think of that gives you bonus ranks.

I gotcha. Real unfortunate though.

How are you qualifying for RW at CL4? You need 8 ranks in it to qualify in the first place.
