Hi!

If you're in my gaming group, stop reading!!!

For my next campaign I am planning an epic undead based magical campaign on a haunted island, with a lich bard (from LM) as my villain.

I have though of lots of nasty tricks she's going to do - but here is one I am not so sure about. (Near the end of campaign): When a wizard discovers her identity, she uses a magic item to trap him in his dreams. Letting the PCs find this out, she is going to "help" them into discovering a way to enter his dream to save him. Once inside, they realise something is wrong, as scary dream monsters, i.e. Phantasmal!!!!!, attack. So, they have to fight their way through a strange and surreal landscape to find the guy, and save him, whereupon he reveals the identity of the lich, and they come out and organise a witch-hunt. This would all be helped along by my talent at drawing bizarre, impressionistic (if that's how it's spelt) artwork.

Does it sound good? Can you offer suggestions?

I welcome your thoughts,
Thank you.

Heroes of Horror is a good book for you. It has rules for dream worlds and helpful info on how to make cool villains. Maybe get BoVD as well.

It does sound cool though.

Alright, take a look here (http://yerka.org.ru/works.html) for some very surreal artistry. Literally, many of his paintings are based off of his dreams.

And here are some dream-based creatures of my own making...

As Jester said, do get Heroes of Horror. It has great ideas for dreamworlds. But I think that the most important thing about dreamworlds is: S**t happens. Make some of the most random things you can think of happen.

Is the Wizard a PC? Because if he is it's not really fair to his player to have him playing damsel in distress and waiting for those other clowns to rescue him.

Of course, since it's his dreams said player could help you with the dreamscape... and it would be cooler for the PCs to be in one of their own dreams than Joe Diviner's...

But I'm rambling. It's a cool idea. *resolves to steal it*

I think a better idea would be for the lich to trap a portion of the wizard's mind away inside his insane dreams. That way they still have to find the "wizard" but a PC doesn't have to sit back and listen while the others have all the fun. Also, he can have fun roleplaying someone whose mind is becoming unbalanced with a missing part, or you could put a time limit on the rescue or the portion of the mind could be permanently lost, making it a race through a surreal and dangerous landscape to reach him.

The wizard is a DMPC. I will adjust the CRs accordingly in the dreamworld so that the players don't die suddenly with the loss of a party member.

The Oneiroi in my sig might be of some use. Not quite what you were going for but if you reflavor Nox to fit your dreamscape concept it could work.
