Like the title says. I don't want to color this with my own thoughts before y'all have had a chance to post. Feel free to target subclasses as well! Choose one or tackle them all! This is just for fun (and possibly my own research?) You don't have to provide a detailed explanation, though feel free to do so.

As an example: "The Cranberries are a Druid artist" is fine, but so is a detailed rant about how their sound perfectly captures a modern version of how the Druidic tradition (probably) worked/felt. (Not my opinion neccessarily, but was an easy off-the-top.)

Can be a band or a solo artist. If it helps, imagine the anachronistic "A Knight's Tale" movie version of the class and pick the theme song that best embodies their role/purpose/feel. The only real rule is that it's modern enough to be anachronistic, and though lots of Classical music counts in this sense, it's not far enough removed to make this fun, so let's block the Bach.

What music best encapsulates what a class is? Bonus points for specific albums/songs.

Also, by working this out, we might get some fun ideas for using modern music during D&D sessions in more light-hearted campaigns! :) Sorry if this is overly-silly, but I think it could be fun. Hugs!!

You signed with hugs. Now I HAVE to reply.

This might be weird, but I feel like Johnny Cash was a multiclass Celestial Warlock/Bard. I picture warlocks as inherently magnetic due to their charisma, maybe a little mysterious, and very good at what they do. I think what sets him apart from other big musicians was his rather sincere religious devotion, hence Celestial over any other pact. I guess he made a deal... With an angel? Plot twist!

This may be highly influenced by the fact I built a character based on a dear friend who made a living for a while as a Johnny Cash imperspnator in Nashville itself. I named it after him and played him completely straight. Tiefling Bard/Sorcerer. One of my favorite characters I’ve ever played. It’s a shame he hates the very idea of D&D or I’d love to see his reaction some time.

Haha this is an awesome response that I definitely did NOT see coming. I love this forum :)

Since undead aren't explicitly evil, I've always planned on modeling a Bard Necromancer after George Clinton AKA "Dr. Funkenstein". His undead would also act as his band and he'd definitely be using Stinking Cloud heavily.

And here I thought this thread might be all about Metal Barbarians. Can you imagine a playing a in party with a George Clinton necro-bard while actually listening to PF? That sounds mad and wonderful.

Paladins are Sabaton (Through the gates of hell, as we make our way to glory" is just too on the nose).

Bards are Elvis (Charming, and look at those scandalous hips!).

Fighters are indie acoustic guitar (It may not be the fanciest to look at, but then you look a little closer and realize that, holy crap, this guy is good).

Sorcerers are KISS (Big, explosive, and nowhere near as edgy as their reputation says they are).

Wizards are Beethoven (Precise, orderly, and bombastic as all get out).

Warlocks are bluegrass (Complicated violin riffs, sad songs, and the Devil Himself).

Rogues are jazz (Come in all sorts of flavors, but often smooth, and slips into the background real nice).

Clerics are either Bach or Sabaton. There is no in-between.

Barbarians are Slipknot/Korn (Violent, rough around the edges, but definitely good at what they do).

Rangers are Howard Shore (Take your pick. Any one of his songs could probably work for your particular ranger)

Dio (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qcWKZTI9OC4) is a Light Cleric.

Ain't no question about it.

Sufjan Stevens is a Favored Soul sorcerer. He's got the wings and everything.

I remember another one I thought up once. The character would be a vampire hunter named Van Halensing. Not sure what class it would be but probably a bard, ranger or warlock or some mix of any of those. I would be too shy to actual role play as David Lee Roth/Dr. Rockso though so someone else can steal this idea and go crazy.

I've made plenty of characters based on Megadeth songs:

Open Hand Monk; Into the Arena/Crush 'Em (https://g.co/kgs/ynwVLE)
Barbarian; Angry Again (https://g.co/kgs/kfS94D)
Anachronistic Soldier (3PP); Blood of Heroes (https://g.co/kgs/CkmyqE)
Halfling Thief; Dread and the Fugitive Mind (https://g.co/kgs/JqFFYW)

I've made a few villains, too:

Lycanthrope seductress and serial killer, high level campaign; She-Wolf (https://g.co/kgs/EWNEY3)
Man Who Can't Be Killed; Die Dead Enough (https://g.co/kgs/yR73Bk)

And I've based several campaigns off of Megadeth:

PCs find a hidden world of wonders; Secret Place (https://g.co/kgs/NStHMN)
PCs are engaged in a religious war; Holy Wars (https://g.co/kgs/xKbKsY)
PCs become the Four Horsemen; Blessed Are the Dead (https://g.co/kgs/gnSW9C)
PCs wage war against the monarchy; Kill the King (https://g.co/kgs/2E7K9H)

I could probably turn every Megadeth song into some sort of PC, Villain, or campaign.
