We’ve run into a bit of an issue in our session. Our caster wants to use telekinesis to essentially bounce the talisman off a devil over and over for mega damage and I don’t believe that’s how that works but the DMG reads a bit weird to me and we can’t come to a decision. What do you guys think?

As an action he TK's the talisman onto the devil. If he hits, it deals 8d6 radiant damage.

I'd give the Devil a Dexterity save (DC = Caster DC) to avoid it.

Talisman of Pure Good

Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement by a creature of good alignment)

This talisman is a mighty symbol of goodness. A creature that is neither good nor evil in alignment takes 6d6 radiant damage upon touching the talisman. An evil creature takes 8d6 radiant damage upon touching the talisman. Either sort of creature takes the damage again each time it ends its turn holding or carrying the talisman.

If you are a good cleric or paladin, you can use the talisman as a holy symbol, and you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls while you wear or hold it.

The talisman has 7 charges. If you are wearing or holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 charge from it and choose one creature you can see on the ground within 120 feet of you. If the target is of evil alignment, a flaming fissure opens under it. The target must succeed on a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw or fall into the fissure and be destroyed, leaving no remains. The fissure then closes, leaving no trace of its existence. When you expend the last charge, the talisman disperses into motes of golden light and is destroyed.

For a moment lets just look at the pure wording. The first bold text states "Upon touching the Talisman" So yes this kind of cheese could work as its touching the skin. I would still say he has to make a spell attack against the creatures AC to make contact OR better yet make it a Dex save for half damage. That basically makes it a free fireball single target spell. And not very game breaking once per round.

The second part will not come into effect unless its somehow actually holding it which he's not going to manage with his spell. So you don't have to worry about it.

Alrighty, I realize RAW it just when it comes into contact but I guess we were just hang up on maybe it has to be In contact for the full turn or something idk, like I said I just wanted to clarify I appreciate it guys.

No the full turn would be the part where its holding it at the end. Its a high level item. If the thing touches it even for a moment it burns and takes damage. It really isn't that good if you consider what a fighter or paladin can do to a demon in a round with 3 weapon attacks or 2 with some smites thrown in. Just have it either be a spell hit vs AC and if that's to potent for a single hit make it a Dex Sv for half damage and the caster gets to do what he wishes and you don't break the game while doing it. :)

We were fighting Zariel, all of us level 20, but it was resistant or immune to a lot of our damage, so it was an interesting position.

Zariel is resistant to radiant damages, so the talismant wouldn't do much better anyway.
