im playing a lv9 bladesinger in an AL game since i got 5th lv spells i realized that there are very few useful spells for a melee wizard other than a few buffs like mirror image, blur, greater invisibility, death ward and a few others

im wondering if anyone has a list of spells good for melee wizards

The thing is, a Bladesinger is a full caster.

If you're trying to be a Fighter, even with some casting, be an EK or a Paladin. Your focus should be on your spells, with melee as a handy back-up.

That being said...

Hold Monster-who doesn't like autocrits?
Steel Wind Strike-made for sword wizards!
Wall Of Force-trap your enemies in with you!

Zephyr Strike: if you want to focus on your round to round damage. It's basically a 1st level spell to make you immune to AoO for a battle.
Haste: As someone pointed out to me on this forum, using the bonus attack granted by haste still triggers your offhand attack if you're dual wielding, allowing you to make 2 attacks + a BB/GFB
Shadow Blade: Still stacks with BB or GFB for a nice damage bump.

Cantrips:
Booming blade: works great with hit and runs using the mobile feat or greater invisibility.
1st:
Mage armor: good starting ac. Could always replace with +1 studded leather later.
Shield: because who doesn't want insane ac.
Absorb elements: If you get caught in an are like fireball this becomes useful for damage mitigation with your lower hp.
longstrider: 50 movement base even without mobile and it is not concentration.
Thunderwave: a good knockback aoe + high movement speed can get you out of multiple attacks of opportunity.
2nd:
Blur: disadvantage from enemy attacks coupled with really high ac greatly reduces chances of being hit. Replace with displacer cloak if you are able.
Hold person: effective for getaways or causing severe problems to opponents in melee with allies.
Counterspell: self-explanatory
3rd:
Haste: more ac, movement, and an extra attack are really good for bladesingers.
Blink: Non-concentration with the extra effect of not being targetable 50% of the time.
lightning bolt/fireball: great aoe damage.
4th:
Greater invisibility: free advantage and disengage
Banishment: Need somebody out of the picture? here you go.
Ice storm: good non-concentration blasting spell.
5th:
steel wind strike: does great damage and is thematic for a blade wizard.
Mislead: Good for getting the pressure off you.

Nothing special, you’re a caster first and foremost.

If you want GFB and shadow blade for style then great.

Of course you’ll want the shield spell. Blur is actually not horrible for you, and mirror image is good... but almost any wizard will consider those (ok maybe not blur... that’s a bit different for you)

If you really want to hit things as a lithe arcane caster, consider an EK mc, it might be more in line.
