Can you use Ventriloquism to cast spells?

Idea being that you cast it and use it to make it harder to be found while under a Invisability spell

No, because all it does is throw your voice. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/ventriloquism.htm)

There are other, higher level, illusion spells (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/projectImage.htm)that allow you to appear to be casting from the illusion.

FWIW, you could use it on a silent image of yourself pretending to cast a spell, and speak believable verbal components - but to no real end.

"You can make your voice (or any sound that you can normally make vocally"
wouldnt Vocal Componets fall under that?

Project Image is alright but its a lvl 7 spell and i'd rather take something else at that lvl that i'd use to a better extent since i have a max of 3 spells at that level

Yes, you could cast the verbal components and make them seem to come from another location, but to what end? The spell would still have to eminate from you, and since you need line of effect for ventriloquism it isn't like you could bury the sound or something like that.

Really, whats the point?

The point is that the spell appears to come from somewhere else. After all, even though the spell emanates from your location doesn't that mean that the enemy knows that location. They are likely to think that it was from the place the voice came from. Sure, Scorching Ray will give away your location, but Bear's Endurance won't.

I see no reason for why Ventriloquism can't throw a Vocal component.

The thing is, the verbal component could come from the image but the spell effect itself such as a little red bead flying across the room and exploding (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/fireball.htm), a line of lightning tearing the air (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/lightningBolt.htm), or a black ray of crackling energy (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/enervation.htm)would all still come from where the caster actually stands.

That little red bead has a size of what... diminutive?? Plus it can travel over 400 feet in all of six seconds... tell me, what is the spot check on that one?

I say its a fairly clever and thoughtful use of the spell. Just yeah, dont cast lightning bolt and whatnot..

I already took care of that. Simply cast spells that aren't flashy. Finger of Death, Dominate Person and Haste do not have a visible point of origin. You only feel the effect happening.

Good.

Point of Origin isn't going to much of a issue for the fair majority of spells that i plan to have

I like the way you think. It reminds me of The Shadow, who is sort of the spiritual ancestor of Batman.

You can definitely use Ventriloquism to make it appear as if your illusion is casting. Perfect for a Beguiler.

not to menching that its a fairly cool way for a rogue with caster lvls to get a good sneack attack oppertonity. Keep him distracted with a voice behind a curtain or mumbling some arcane sounding bull, then invisably stand behind himm with a dagger or somthing.
