Talent Contest

I'm pretty certain that there are some talent contest that existed in D&D 3.5 and the Perform skill is the only way to win talent contest. So what I'm asking how can you run a successful talent contest and how can you win a talent contest. I found some way to win a talent contest, rolling the highest Perform skill check win. And also I feel lke a talent contest should include prized, such as a large sum of gold pieces, magic items, a trip to another country or plane, sore something like that. :smile:

I don't know of any specific mechanic, but if I had to ad lib something on the spot I would use the Complex Skill Checks (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/complexSkillChecks.htm) rules and have each competitor face the same challenge and compare the overall results in some way.

Is there a reason why only perform skills should matter? I feel sleight of hand or tumble could be rather impressive too.
