Does anybody here know how to keep oneself in stasis for an indefinite period of time, preferably in a bottle or lamp, using Sorc/Wiz, Cleric, and/or Druid spells and/or magic items? I'd prefer to avoid using quintessence, wish, miracle, or weird planar traits if at all possible.

So far, the closest thing I have is the Smoky Confinement spell from Complete Mage (which basically does exactly what I want), but I'd prefer to use a combination of lower level spells if I can (I'll just buy a scroll if I don't find anything better, though).

Sepia Snake Sigil is sort of close-ish.

Do Sha'ir spells disappear from memory while under the effects of Smoky Confinement? What about Sepia Snake Sigil?

Try an iron flask (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#ironFlask), or the Metamorphosis or Minimus Containment version of binding (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/binding.htm)

The iron flask would work really well, if only it didn't cost that much.

Binding is pretty okay, but it's of a higher level than smoky confinement.

Thanks for both of those suggestions/ideas, though.

There are two items from Dungeon 85, a minor artifact called the 'Chains of True Binding' that puts a prisoner in temporal stasis, and a chain of 2d6 temporal stasis beads called the 'Beads of Stasis' for 15000 gold.

Petrification/flesh to stone will put any creature in stasis. Even better, since they no longer count as a creature and no longer register as "alive" or "dead", it makes locating the creature via divination nearly impossible. If the target is willing (or has a horrible Fort save), you can turn a creature into stone with a 4th level spell: call of stone in PHBII (Dru/Sor/Wiz 4). Shrink item is 3rd.

If you prefer a magic item, Incense of the Gorgon (6600 GP, A&EG) will do petrification fairly cheaply. Stone Salve (4000 GP, DMG) reverses it.

they no longer count as a creatureWhere are you getting that from Flesh to Stone (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/fleshToStone.htm)? No mention of objects there, and it references creature both before and after. The Petrified (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/conditionSummary.htm#petrified) condition merely says they're considered unconscious.

"The creature is not dead, but it does not seem to be alive either when viewed with spells such as deathwatch."

The creature does not appear to be either dead or alive, so attempts to find it via divination spells will fizzle. You could try discern location for a specific object, such as a "statue of specific creature named {blah}", but you'd have to know that the creature was turned to stone and actually have touched the stone at some point.
