Hey guys.

I'm making a druid and I seem to have a rather unique problem (based on my google fu search results).

This is a level 4 one shot session I'm preparing for. I want to play a druid, but I was wondering if there's any medium, non metal armor more optimal than bog standard +1 Hide armor?

Eggynack's Guide to Druids is unfortunately failing me here, because it presumes more general Druid construction that is planning to later take Wild Shape at level 5 and so the document doesn't worry much about giving advice on good druid armors (especially in the price range for WBL 4).

Stuck at level 4 and just out of reach of Wild Shape, I feel like there's gotta be something tucked away in some official source that bumps the AC bonus up a bit more than +3 without using metal.

It'd be great to have Breastplate equivalent with room to spare to add the +1 enchantment, but I'm open to suggestions of any kind.

Any takers?

EDIT: I've decided on a Stat array that gives me 12 Dex Score, so Max Dex limiters aren't a problem

There are several special materials you can use, but most of them are too expensive to be affordable at level 4.
I'm afb right now, but iirc Dragonhide is the cheapest at double the cost of a normal masterwork breastplate.

You’ve got a nice wooden shield already, right?

Darrin has a post-full of druid friendly armors hereabouts (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=19791374&postcount=30). Should really look into that at some point.

"Dragonhide armor costs double what masterwork armor of that type ordinarily costs"SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialMaterials.htm#dragonhide) So you are looking at 200 for Breastplate, plus another 150 for masterwork, and double that total means a good Dragonhide breastplate should run around 700 gp.

WBL for level 4 should be like... 5,400 gp right?

700 gp for a Masterwork Breastplate seems affordable with that budget.

Alternately, be a Swift and Deadly Hunter (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druid), and run around naked.

This is perfect. I should have known the compiled list would be associated with the guide somehow.

But it seems the general consensus is likely correct. Dragonhide might be the best deal for me. Darkleaf and Sentira are technically superior, but ultimately not much worth the extra cost. The low cost of 700gp means I have room for the +1 enchantment and to move on to more magic items to boot.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. I think I've got what I need now. Just feel silly for forgetting about old Dragonhide. Duh.
