Killer dog-riding Gnome?

Looking to build a new character ... thinking a gnome wizard. Leaning towards taking the eidetic spellcaster ... either domain wizard or illusionist. Take obtain familiar, and improved familiar to get a blink dog.

I really want to ride the blink dog - according to A&EG, a ring of blinking will align the blink dog blinking with the rider, so would need that ASAP (assuming the 3.0 ruling is still valid) ... then possibly going the shadowcraft killer gnome route.

Any other advice? Anything I'm missing? I just love the idea of a little gnome riding the dog everywhere (not sure why). Level 4 hellbreaker would help with the dimension door ability, but cost CL so probably not worth it (unless it was a gestalt build, which it is not)

Another option would be using Wild Cohort (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a) to get a dog, then going into the Silverwood Arcanist (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031209a) prestige class...

Another option is Arcane Hierophant (RotW), which combines your arcane familiar and animal companion into one creature. Exalted Companion (BoED) might allow this to be a Blink Dog?

there is some argument over legality of taking obtain familiar if you have Chains of Disbelief acf due to the wording of that feature. Like Thurbane said wild cohort is probably a better use of your feats especially if you can stack exalted feat with it. There is another good mounted arcanist prc but I am afb so will have to look later...
