What happens if a revenant has its memory wiped?

Revenants need a target of their revenge, in order to continue hunting them. If someone erases a revenant's memory of its target, what happens? Does it return to the grave?

I think it would be awesome if the revenant is still drawn to its target, but both of them lost their memory in whatever caused its death. Now they adventure together, having no idea that this inescapable connection is powered by bloody vengeance.
