Curse of Strahd Help, PC backstory entanglement

So two of my pc have really awesome backstories and i want to have them included in the campaign.

they both have a "mysterious creature" that came and killed/abducted somebody they cared about.
(they do not know of each others backstory)

The question is, how would i spin this into the whole campaign.
My best bet would be somebody working with Strahd.

But what would you do?

One of the story hook is hunting werewolves, read the wolf's den chapter for clues of who they may have taken (not wanting spoils it in the forum)
