What does the little yellow bead actually do? I'm assuming it's the same one that orbited Laurin, and that Blackwing's "shiny" will thus be rather important. What is it and how does it work? Does the colour matter?

Because in OotS, activating a PfE spell while Evil causes you pain (it seems), and pain is a very common way to wake up someone from unconsciousness.
