Robe of Stars, What do you actually get from Astral Plane

Pretty straight forward, I love the Robe of Stars for the magic missiles and the +1 to saves, but i thought the at will Astral Plane travel might be really useful until i actually didn't know what that would entail mechanically.

Sure it might be useful for planar travel, but is there a mechanical benefit for going into astral plane mid combat?

Mid combat, no there's not any real benefit (aside from a sort of personal get-out-of-jail free card to get you out of a hairy situation). Chapter 2 of the DMG outlines the specifics of how all the various planes work, including the Astral Plane.

Except don't you return to the same spot you left? Might have to wait and hope it's safe later.
