Hello, I have been scrounging the net for some time and started wondering about Animal Companions and whatnot.

Rules themselves are pretty clear on how it goes, but I do have a question - There is Obtain Familiar, Dragon Cohort, Psicrystal and Wild Cohort feats are there any other feats that give you access to a companion? (No leadership or actual cohorts variants).

And are there feats that allow you to improve said cohorts that are obtained through those means? (Well, Familiar and Psicrystal is very obvious with featlines dedicated to them, but the others.. not so much.)

Leadership is another big one.

Undead can be disposable pawns valued companion and there's considerable feat support for improving them if you're creating them rather than just Rebuke / Commanding them.

Dragon Steed from Draconomicon: you gain the service of a Dragonnel as a steed, which serves as long as you treat it fairly, like a cohort. Dragon Cohort is in the same book, but Dragon Steed doesn't require 9th level and isn't based on Leadership. The Dragonnel picture is completely doofy of course, but the stats are perfectly servicable, so just substitute any large-ish non-flaming rideable dragon pic of choice.

Taking Shape Soulmeld (Necrocarnum Circlet) and Bind Least Chakra (Crown) lets you have a Necrocarnum Zombie of up to half your level in hit dice. Requires a corpse, doesn't advance, is somewhat Evil, and only half the strength that a full classed Incarnate would have- but if your horse died and you want a tougher horse, you can do worse than turning it into a stronger, tougher, faster horse which is fueled by the souls of the damned.

Leadership is another big one.

Well, I mentioned Leadership is a nono. Reason for that is well, its Leadership. Was thinking about Undead as well, but it is more of an army rather than a companion.

Dragon steed does look fun though and should be a viable option for the kind of things I am looking for. Thank you.

Natural Bond (CAd) adds +3 to your effective Druid level (up to your actual level) for Animal Companions.
Animal Friends (RoF) is a 3.0 feat that gives you 2HD of animal under your control, as per the defunct spell Animal Friendship. Check with your DM how this feat works in 3.5.
Feral Animal Companion (CoR) gives your Ac a diseased bite and boost to Str and Con.
Exalted Companion (BoED) gives you a good aligned magical beat instead of an AC.
Vermin Companion (ECS) lets you take a Vermin for your AC.
Spider Companion (DotU) lets you have a monstrous spider as your AC.
Aerenal Beastmaster (RoE) gives you access to a Baboon companion. It also gets a boost to your effective Druid level for it's abilities.
Shared Fury (RotW) lets your share your Rage with your AC.
Share Soulmeld (MoI) lets you share your soul meld with youe AC (or special mount, or familiar).
Heroic Companion (MoE) lets your share your action point pool with your AC.
Devoted Tracker (CAd) lets you compbine a special mount and AC into one creature getting both sets of benefits.
Coordinated Strike (RotW) gives you a +1 bonus to attack any creature the same round they attack it (whoop-de-do!)

There's also the incarnum bind that lets you summon a soulspark. (soulspark familiar, maybe?)

For completion's sake, there's also the Vermin Trainer feat: Does what it says on the tin. It lets you train monstrous vermin as if they had an intelligence score, sort of.

Soulspark Familiar would be super cool, if it wasn't complete garbage. Never makes more than one attack, that attack is a ranged attack with a maximum range of 5 feet, and oh yeah it can't move more than 10 feet from you or it dies. Take one look at that vs the Necrocarnum circlet and it makes me rage every time, so I made a homebrew feat to make it actually usable past 2nd level (posted in the last Incarnum thread).

Extra Familiar (Dragon #280)

Apprentice, Entertainer (Dungeon Master's Guide II):
... and the ability to call upon the aid of an admirer or fan by spending a tithe appropriate for the apprentice's level. The admirer is of a character level equal to 1/2 the apprentice's own (minimum 1st) and must be within at least one step of his alignment, but can be of any race or class. The ally serves the apprentice for a limited duration (usually a number of days equal to his Charisma modifier, minimum of 1 day) as if a cohort. Once the apprentice calls upon the aid of an admirer, he may not do so again until he gains at least one level.

There is the Dark Companion ACF for the Hexblade, replacing the usual familiar. Can be dispelled or suppressed like a spell, but reforms the next day and cannot be permanently killed. The mild debuffs are niche but useful, and you can go grab another, standard companion from a different class or a feat as well.
