Hi all, I was reading through the magic chapter as I'm playing a Cleric, and I have only played a 3.5 and 5e cleric, and I came across the passage:

A spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell with a lower-level spell.

Does that mean if my level 1 Cleric has a Wisdom of 16, can I utilise the bonus 2nd and 3rd spell slots, or do they only become "available" at 3rd and 7th level?

You only get bonus slots of a given level if you get high enough to cast the normal spells of that level.

What I ment was can I use a level 1 spell in the level two slot, is what I actually ment... Sorry

You can, but only when you have level 2 slots in the first place (i.e. 3rd level or higher.) At level 1 and 2 you won't have access to your 2nd-level slots.

Also, no need to apologize

For reference, this was the case in 3e and 3.5 as well.
