If I were to cast Thunderous Smite, and roll a crit, does the 2d6 Thunder damage get doubled also? First time playing a pally in this edition!

Yup, you double the dice. Same with regular divine smites. The nice thing is being able to decide to smite after you've crit, so you can save a divine smite for when you eventually end up rolling a crit.

The other nice thing is dipping a few levels into Champion Fighter to get twice as many crits.

Not worth 3 levels of Fighter for 19-20 rit range.

Action Surge? Ok, maybe go 2 levels, but even then I think levels in Sorcerer, Rogue, or Barbarian will be a lot better for you.

Edit: Reckless Attack is sweeeet on the Paladin.

Dice are doubled. Straight bonuses are not.

1d8+3d6+5 becomes 2d8+6d6+5 on a crit for example.

Worth repeating. IMX a lot of experienced 5e players make the mistake of thinking you double the rolled value of the die, instead of rolling twice as many dice. Mostly important for distribution or results reasons. Or they just double the value of the entire damage.
