Man's greatest treasure is woman.
I would have to say 'sapiens' (wisdom). Or perhaps the ability to illustrate our thoughts and meanings into commonly accessible and understandable forms - a.k.a. language and all that derives from it (from books to this forum.) Language is so fundamental in nearly all ways.

is the ability to learn and by consequence, knowledge.

Without learning we would still be out there bashing things with sticks.

Physics puns tend to have much more force and momentum, my dear Death.

Heh, you would probably get an A+ in that class, after all you look like a man who knew-tons, but if I could get a moment to torque with you about your style, we may be on different wavelengths, as I have noticed the frequency of your puns increase, and in light of this sound topic I thought it best to have a chat before you start charing for the magnetism you exert. Believing in gravity I have always seen you as a down to earth man, and would be glad to discuss physics further, as long as no one makes us walk the Planck, or get us Hooke'd on anything else, not that the other topics really matter, it's just a phase I'm going through.

I must be away though, gone fission with the grand daughter. Will check spelling when I get back/add some on topic additions. *shifty eyes*

...is imagination. The ability to dream of the world other than we see it now, and thus make a better world for ourselves.

Without imagination, we'd have no art, no music, no technology, no hunger to explore, no capacity to adapt to change, no ability to plan. We'd have no sense of empathy, no sense of the majesty and mystery of creation, no religion even ('faith, the evidence of things unseen' = our imaginations searching for the best in life).

Without the capacity to imagine we'd be nothing but scrawny apes scratching a bare living on the savannah. For all our flaws, I like us better with imagination. :smallamused:

Man's greatest treasure is knowing when to stop desiring more.
Except that's not true.

Also, animals have the ability to learn, remember, form friendship and love.

And some primates have opposable thumbs.

I say the greatest treasure man gave to the earth was guns... because at this rate, we'll kill ourselves long before Mother Nature gets fed up with our destruction.

Our complicated brains. Our insatiable hunger for more, more, more.

Every human in existence has always wanted something at any point in their lives.

Ahh, sure it is. As long as people keep chasing after material things, they're never happy. But as soon as they stop desiring more, they have all the treasure they need. I know quite a few people like this.

As for our destruction ... well, take a little perspective. Plants are still around, and those things nearly destroyed all other life on earth, spewing out all of that toxic oxygen. I don't think Mother Nature kept a grudge against them.

I'm not sure we have one that we don't share with another species. Language? We just have in a more advanced form. Technology? More advanced, but Otters do it as well, so it's not that special. Power? Possibly more of a curse than a treasure. The answer I would say is that we don't have treasure, just an enhanced craving to seek it. The wanderlust that defines the human race is not only our greatest treasure, it's our only treasure. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Everyone knows man's greatest treasure is not forum friendly.... But I have to agree, the greatest treasure we have that the other animals lack is pants. I haven't seen a single animal wearing pants that weren't given them from some human. Otherwise, they have emotions, they have females, they have all those other goodies that have been mentioned. They simply lack the pants.

Pants. Final Answer.

Hmm the mind is a good one, peace, joy, freedom, love etc also good. Sesame Street excellent (heh heh, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo are personal heros and i've based a series of philosophical texts on them:smalltongue: )

Still, all of these have counter arguments.

42.. good one but Deep Thought would be required to say whether it truly was the greatest gift.
