View Full Version : DM Help Replacing Inspiration

I want something different from normal Inspiration, so I intend to replace it with the DMG's optional Hero Points. Further, I also want to include the Honor attribute, but treat it more as the PC staying true to their character (a la Hackmaster).

The kicker is that I want to tie them together, so having a high honor score benefits your Hero Points in some way.

At the moment, I'm thinking either keeping Hero Points as they are, but the Honor modifier can be added to the 1d6 roll; or making the number of Hero Points equal to something like your Honor Score + half your character level, rather than 5 + half your character level.

Advice or alternatives would be appreciated.

(Both Hero Points and the Honor attribute can be found on page 264 of the DMG)

I'd advise the second option... "making the number of Hero Points equal to something like your Honor Score + half your character level"

Raw bonuses can quickly tip 5e. Back in the heady 3rd edition days, a modifier of +2 or +3 wasn't a game breaker, but 5e tends to hand out die rolls as modifiers, which have less of a guarantee and keep the ACs and DCs low.
