Hmm, doesn't Valhalla have 539 doors too few?

The primary source (Poetic Edda (https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Poetic_Edda/Grímnismál)) is pretty clear about it. And each of these is a massive gate, wide enough for 800 warriors side-to-side. Kind of makes sense, as it (in real life mythology) houses warriors from the entirety of Earth's history — or, in D&D version, takes up the bulk of a whole plane.

Here in the comic we have a bunch of windows and but a single gate that's merely the size of a single tree. Perspective is unclear so it might be a god-sized tree which might be enough — but even if you have another gate or two on the other side of Valhalla, that's still short quite a few doors.

Ah, I think I've spotted the mistake here. The primary source for OotS Valhalla is not the Poetic Edda, but this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html).

Oh hello there early 20s. It's been too long.

Rather than argue about what OotS does and does not take reference from, I'm just going to say that Valhalla looks like a combination of Dwarf Fortress and Tracy Island. And that's awesome.

Come on, TS. We all know that you understood this perfectly well and just wanted to drop some Norse mytholgy knowledge. :amused:

Also note that this is just the surface door...see the giant mountain?

Everyone knows most Thor worshippers are dwarves. Everyone knows dwarves like to mine things. Everyone knows dwarves are afraid sworn enemies of trees, open sky and crowded places like Montana.

Taking all of that into account, everyone knows all of the real entrances are under ground. The tiny little sally ports like the one we see are just for the rubes and the tallfolk.

What if this is but one of the gates you mentioned? And there are a lot more gates scattered all around that mountain?

He could have had Heimdall guarding the rainbow bridge, that doesn't quite take the Religion:Norse check that 541 doors have, and since the bridge was shown in comic it would have worked (he'd have to include mortals* around him, gods varied size tends to wreck scaling. And even then it would be hard to realize that those little smudges are mortals (presumably).

Zoom into the doors and realize that the Giant included mortals outside. Yes, plenty can walk abreast. Not 800, but plenty (unless those are *gods* [that mortals] can walk on their shoes).

* I think the D&D term is "petitioner". But in Durkon and Minrha's case I'm not sure this even counts once a greater god says you're in.

To be fair, you're only seeing one side of the mountain. There could be 539 identical the holds like this all along the base because the mountain is JUST THAT HUGE.

Or It could be that the Giant has said repeatedly he doesn't care about the myths if their not what he wants to tell in his story. Either Or.

Did you miss that Loki and Thor are brothers in this comic?

I've got your Poetic Edda right here.
