Am I the only one that reads the comic using distinct voices in my head for the characters? Be gentle if I am.

Belkar is a little high pitched and nasally. Like Wallace Shawn.

Roy interestingly enough doesn't have a distinct voice. I don't know if that's because subconsciously I'm putting myself in his role?

Durkon sounds like James Doohan aka Scotty from Star Trek. Of course for me every dwarf sounds like Scotty, even the females. So it's been a little confusing following the dialouge lately. :D

Thor on the other hand sounds a little like Jeff Bridges as Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski. I have no idea why.

I don't find this odd or surprising even though I do not get this myself. I remember a supermarket ad from my childhood - I always associated that with a smell in my head. Then some people have Synesthesia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia). If you were talking to Thor, I'm sure he'd say: "It's fine. You do you." and I am sure your are reading that in your special Thor voice in your head.

And I always read V’s lines out loud.
Agree on belkar’s voice, but Durkon has a more bass voice.

I have to keep reminding myself that Elan would probably not sound like he's eight years old.

Hello

If you have Synesthesia., it would be interesting to hear your experience of it.

He always sounded like Gary Busey to me....

I try to hear characters with certain voices, but I'm not very good at it.

Nah. He's James Woods as Hades.

Ever since I watched Wander Over Yonder, I've read Redcloak's lines in Tom Kenny's Commander Peepers voice but a little lower and less cartoony.

It's actually simple: I feel sounds as colors and lights. Every sound. Expecially voices.

It never works back, so for example, Elan has not a golden voice in my head only because it's blond. But if I hear a song (more often when the singer is female), I image her with hair of the color of her voices, and it feels really strange if it's not true.

Female voices are nice, all colors. Men's are usually black and white, worse.

In this case, yes, the pic is right. All hail the pic!
But for the oots, no.
So, I guess that to me it happens only if I already associate a voice to a character.

I hear Elan as Neil Patrick Harris, V as Helen Mirren, and Belkar as Duke-Nukem-if-he-were-a-Hobbit.

So I am curious. If you have a female singer whose voice is at the more lower more gravelley end, how does that look?

I actually started reading V's lines in a deep voice before I got to the parts with jokes about hir ambiguous gender, which has made some of V's scenes kinda weird in my head :)

I have voices for all the characters, but they're based on my own voice, as if I were the voice actor for all of them. So, Vaarsuvius speaks the Queen's English in a bright, gender-neutral tone, but filtered through the limitations of my own vocal cords. I suspect this is because I always enjoy(ed) acting out scripts or reading books aloud to my younger brother, so when I'm reading, my brain is predisposed to imagine "okay, how would we voice this line?", rather than, say, how Xykon would sound as James Earl Jones.

I have vague voices, but nothing all too clear or recognisable as real people.

Closest would probably be when I noticed my voice for Xykon sounds quite a bit like Jack of Blades.

Also, I've recently been rewatching Archer and also reread through OotS, and while H Jon Benjamin totally isn't my Belkar, the way he does anger and sarcasm as Archer fit some of Belkar's lines really well

I always imagined Xykon sounding the way he describes his voice in Start of Darkness (http://www.giantitp.com/GIPOTS99.html), complete with him not sounding the same when he was alive. I guess that that's the voice I imagine for any... sufficiently threatening character with an absent or obscured face? Like, most depictions of the Grim Reaper, say.

Nale, Vaarsuvius, and basically all comic characters who could be described as "snooty" (e.g Rose Lalonde) have Transatlantic accents, although they otherwise sound nothing alike.

Based on the dialogue, I assume that the SQUIP would sound like Keanu Reeves, but of course... Huh? Oh, sorry, thread title reminded me of something else.

I have to keep reminding myself that Elan would probably not sound like he's eight years old.
While I'm aware of that in principle, it doesn't change what I imagine hearing, even though Elan realistically should sound more like Nale, who doesn't sound like a child at all.

Your own voice the way it sounds in your head, or your own voice the way a recording of it sounds?

Giving all the snooty characters American accents is quite original. I like it.

As with most books and (especially) comic books, I also associate each OotS character with a distinct voice. But since it's all subvocalization, I'd bee hard-pressed to find audio equivalents.

I can't associate Darth Vader's voice with a skeleton, no matter how much I try. Sounds wrong.

I always pictured Xykon's voice as sounding like Tim Curry. Redcloak sounds like Tony Jay, for reference.

I always imagine Xykon and Redcloak with Mr. Burns and Smithers' voices, probably because of their early appearances.

Well, in the last panel (of 1143) Thor took on Farnsworth's voice. That was unexpected.
