View Full Version : Has nobody ever thought to make an aquatic summoner?

Okay so I have a seafaring campaign coming up and was curious as to any aquatic-based prestige classes for summoners that would be worth taking over just building a good summoner and using the aquatic animals. I have tried looking and the only thing I found even remotely good was the bonded summoner and grabbing a water elemental familiar. There has to be something better, right? That's why I am calling upon you guys' collective knowledge.

If you guys don't find something, I will probably end up using the Alienist for the tentacle rakes and try to flavor it as an alien water planet. Don't wanna do that, but I definitely wanna play a sorcerer.

Edit: Homebrew is an option.

Don't think you can do much better than going Druid. SNA has water elementals of all sizes and most of the SNAs seem to have some aquatic options too. Sorcerer isn't going to work too great for that, but if you want spontaneous arcane you can use the savage bard from UA which gets SNA on its list, or if you just want spontaneous casting you can use the spontaneous druid variant, also from UA.

Also, forgot to mention. Homebrew is an option.

And thanks for the input so far. I will be looking into those options.

If homebrew is an option you can always just homebrew up some aqautic demons/celestials. There are a couple feats that add monsters to summon monster's summoning list like Fiendish Summoning Specialist. Just add the aquatic monsters to the summon monster list and only summon them.

Is a good resource for feats to take to improve summoning regardless of class.

Also take merfolk as race.

Pretty sure you'd be better served trying to come up with an aquatic archetype than looking for a PrC. I imagine swapping stuff like Maker's Call and Shield Ally would work okay, and tweaking summon monster to focus on aquatic summons. Unchained Eidolon forms include Deepwater, reminiscent of krakens and cthulhoid abominations, or you can always go Psychopomp and flavor it aquatically.

I like the Sea Witch for seafaring campaigns. It has powerful summons and the unique ability to manipulate the field through whirlpools early on within a very big range. Also a sick capstone.

Sea Which is kinda what I've been looking for.

If Sea Witch was mentioned - it means Stormwrack is available; check the New Creatures and Summon Spells :smallwink:

New creatures and summon spells!? Where do I find these?

I mean, just homebrew a feat of your own if your DM is that permissive

Underwater Summoning
Through your understanding of planar summoning, you have been able to modify your summons towards aquatic areas.
Prerequisites: Ability to cast Summon Monster I or Summon Nature's Ally I

At any time that you summon a creature, you can choose to give it the Aquatic template (see Stormwrack) as a free action.

((Aquatic template TL;DR
-Amphibious subtype
-(-2) DEX))
