Just putting this out as a warning to take some heat off Rich if it happens.

He has been on a total vacation from OOTS from the last time he made a comic and posted it on the site. So when he comes back tomorrow, that does not mean "new comic time! Hurray!" because he will start working on one tomorrow, and might not finish it for a couple of days. So don't start yelling at the poor fellow if you don't get your comic tomorrow - you've waited 3 weeks, you can wait a little more right?:smallwink:

Well of course.

But he said "Oots will return, 17th September". So he kinda implied that it will be ready for 17th september.

I'm OK with the idea of it being late though. No hussle.

I think that it's very possible that he has one ready from some time, just to post it precisely on 17th, and then start work on next one, without stress.

Anyhow, I never yell. I think that no real fan yell.

I've got a feeling people would be both upset and disappointed if Sept. 17 passes without an update. That doesn't necessarily riots if no comic shows up, but... No, no wait, scratch that - I think a lack of comic WOULD lead to riots. It just might be the last straw leading to the final collapse of western civilization. :smalleek:

Let's just say I really really hope there's not a shortage of comics. It really would undermine Rich's credibility.

Well the message doesn't say Rich will return on the 17th, it says the OotS will, which has been noted above. This strongly indicates (to the point of actually saying it) that there should be a new comic on the 17th. However, in my opinion, this isn't the big indicator. Rich has had 3 leisurly weeks to work on a comic and I have no doubt he will post one on the 17th.

The real mystery is how long we will wait for 486.

You know it's not unrealistic to expect someone to meet their own, self-imposed deadline, particularly not when they've had several weeks off.

Friends, "hiatus" does not mean that he was busy working on the strip so that he could have a backlog and three new projects to tell us about. It more likely means that he spent the last three weeks looking at mountains and lakes and everything else in the world that isn't a computer.

I would be thrilled if there were a strip tomorrow. But it's going to be the first page of a new book, so it is probably harder than the average strip to get right. Heck, I'll be thrilled if he posts a news item tomorrow saying that he's back at the drawing table and sticking with two strips a week.

I was sort of hoping that maybe Rich was able to do what he always wanted to (Build up a 'buffer' set of comics so that when he needs to take a few days off here or there, he can do so stress free), but regardless he has done so much for so many and hasn't really asked for (or gotten) much in return.

So lets just sit back and wait.

:smallfurious: Why, if there's no new comic I'm gonna...

Rich said "the Order of the Stick will return September 17th."

Not: "On September 17th I'll start making a comic."

I think we'll see an update.

Of course it should be noted that by Sept 17th Rich means before midnight on the 17th...

I'm expecting an update @ 11:58  and the server to crash @ 12:03 on the 18th. (All EST of course)

Perhaps he has been resting, and perhaps he has spent some of the last few weeks working on his other projects, which were accelerating the health issue.

Remember: "So while I will be taking on no new merchandise projects for a while, you should be aware that there are 4-5 existing projects that are mostly done (some of which would have been available for GenCon). These will still come out as intended, so you should expect to see some new book and board game announcements in the next few months, after which it will taper back a bit. Of course, even then, regular compilations of the online strip will continue for as long as OOTS itself does."

Also remember: "First, for those who didn't see the notice at the bottom of the latest OOTS, my hiatus is beginning now and lasting until September 17th." He will post tomorrow.

Personally, I just hope he does what he needs to get back on his feet again.
