I'm using the alternate rules for awarding magic items by tier in xanathars guide to everything. The robe of useful items has a patch that gives healing potions. Should these positions count against the number of common items the players get? Or are the potions part of the robe of useful items?

The robe is magical, as such I feel the potions are part of the robes 'magic' and should not count against a players common item limit.

Imho- potions are part of the robe.
The robe is awesome though.

It has been my level 5 and level 10 pick for my Artificer’s wondrous invention.

It's part of the robe. They're included in the robe's rarity.

I don't think I would count healing potions in the magic item limit in the first place, tbh.
