as far as i know harder materials add to an objects AC but not it's total hp(op object heath?) or damage threshold? seeing how an object cant make a save an up-casted shatter is better than a fireball for taken down ships and such which i'm ok with. i had a player destroy a whole army's arrow supply with a well placed shatter.

I don't think those rules apply in 5th edition. Mithral is just light for it's strength and doesn't make much noise so it removes strength requirements and stealth penalties. Adamantine just turns critical hits into normal hits. You don't normally attack items in 5th edition so their AC/HP isn't all that relevant.

It don't, actually. Adamantine and mithral armor are magical, none of their functions work in antimagic field, for example.

I don't think items made from those materials are automatically magic or stat blocks wouldn't have resistance to non magic weapons that aren't adamantine like gargoyle or golems. Yet it's listed on magic item table in armor form in the DMG.

I assume the magic item table is mainly just for stuff that is more than just a common item. I can't see mithral or adamantine items being magical in a way that an anti-magic field would block. Same with elven chain - the bonuses are a function of how well it is made not what spells went into it's creation.

The designer of the game disagrees: https://www.sageadvice.eu/2018/04/10/why-is-an-adamantine-armor-a-magical-item-while-a-adamantine-weapon-is-just-one-made-with-a-diferent-material/

An adamantine weapon is not magical by default. An adamantine armor is a magic item (which requires a magic item formula to craft, among other things).

There is no special property to mithral weapons in 5e. It's just an expensive weapon.

This is my understanding as well. I just think a higher damage threshold is needed.
