HP Die: d8
Class Skills:
Appraise, Bluff, Climb, Craft, Diplomacy, Fly, Heal, Intimidate, Knowledge (all), Linguistics, Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Stealth, Survival, Swim, and Use Magic Device.
Skill Points: 4 + Int modifier
Casting: A Draconic Ascendant may combine spheres and talents to create magical effects. A Draconic Ascendant is considered a Mid-Caster and uses Charisma as her casting ability modifier. (Note: All casters gain 2 bonus talents and may select a casting tradition the first time they gain the casting class feature.)
Spell Pool: A Draconic Ascendant gains a small reservoir of energy she can call on to create truly wondrous effects, called a spell pool. This pool contains a number of spell points equal to her level + her Charisma modifier (minimum: 1). This pool replenishes once per day after roughly 8 hours of rest.
Dragon Aspect (SU): Emulating the dragons' immense power, the Draconic Ascendant can manifest different aspects of these mythical creatures. As a side effect, the Ascendant's eyes subtly glow in the color of the favored dragon type, granting low-light vision.
As a move action, the Draconic Ascendant can manifest one or more aspects, which last for 1 minute per Draconic Ascendant level. Activating Dragon Aspect replaces any previously chosen aspects with new ones. This ability can be used (3 + 1/2 Draconic Ascendant levels) times per day. Starting at level 3 and every three levels thereafter (6, 9, 12, etc.), the Ascendant can manifest an additional aspect simultaneously.
Each aspect can be manifested an additional time per 5 levels, with each additional manifestation enhancing the aspect's effects. For example, a level 6 Draconic Ascendant can manifest up to 3 aspects simultaneously and can choose to enhance a single aspect twice.
-The Claw: Nails elongate and harden. Gain 2 claw attacks appropriate for your size. You may manifest this aspect one extra time per 5 levels. Each additional time, you may either increase the damage die by 1, or increase your reach on your turn by 5 ft.
-The Heart: You feel the blood of the Great Ones run through you, and you know that you are your only master. Gain a bonus equal to your class level against mind-affecting effects and double the bonus against morale effects, including fear. Manifesting this aspect one extra time per 5 levels grants elemental resistance (fire, acid, etc.) equal to your class level + 5, or increases existing resistance by 1/2 your class level. Resistance greater than 30 due to this ability becomes immunity.
-The Tail: Grow a thick tail that provides protects against flanking, except by a rogue at least 4 levels higher than your Draconic Ascendant levels. Manifest this aspect one extra time after 5th level to gain a Tail Slap as a true dragon of your size. At level 10, manifest it again to gain a Tail Sweep as a true dragon of your size. At 15th level, manifest it one more time to use Tail Sweep as a move action and increase your effective size (for the purpose of your tail) by 1 step.
-The Wings: Safely land from falls and descend as slowly as 20 ft/turn, moving up to 30 ft per 10 ft dropped (counts as falling, not an action). Manifest this aspect an extra time at level 5 to gain a clumsy flight speed of 20. Manifest it an additional time every 5 levels thereafter (10, 15, 20, etc.) to improve maneuverability by 1 step and increase speed by 10.
Lesser Dragon Trait: As the Draconic Ascendant grows accustomed to manifesting aspects, they begin to permanently embody the dragons' majesty. At levels 2, 4, and 6, the Draconic Ascendant can choose one Lesser Dragon Trait from the list below. Unless otherwise specified, these are permanent, extraordinary effects inherent to the Draconic Ascendant. Save DCs are equal to (10 + 1/2 Draconic Ascendant level + Charisma modifier).
Destructive Breath (SU) [Requires Dragon's Breath, Destruction sphere]: You may add the effects of a Blast Type you know to the effects of your Dragon's Breath. Additionally, you may have half the damage be of the Blast Type's type. You may spend daily uses of Dragon Aspect in place of spell points.
Draconic Form: Gain the Dragon Transformation as a bonus talent. If you don't have the Alteration sphere, also gain that, with the Lycanthropic drawback. Further, when beneficial, you may consider Dragon Transformation as Blank Form, and vice versa. Any attempt to discern your true form (such as True Sight) short of the Wish spell, while affected by Dragon Transformation, only sees your Dragon Transformation form without additional traits. The natural attacks from Dragon Transformation count as natural attacks granted by this class, when relevant.
Dragon's Breath (SU): While you have manifested the Dragon Aspect of The Heart, you may also spend a daily use of Dragon Aspect to gain a breath weapon of an element (fire, electric, ice, or acid) for the same duration. This breath weapon deals elemental damage equal to 1d6 per 2 class levels, in a cone 5 ft long per class level. It can be done once every 1d4 rounds as a standard action. Those affected may make a reflex save for half.
Fanged Aspect: You may now manifest The Fangs as an aspect with Dragon Aspect. Your head enlarges as your mouth grows more draconic. Gain a bite attack as a dragon of your size. You may manifest this aspect an additional time per 5 levels, each time increasing your effective size (for the purpose of this aspect) by 1. The second manifestation gives your bite attack the Grab ability. The third gives you the Swallow Whole ability, at your effective size for this aspect. The fourth grants Fast Swallow.
Greater Magic Expression [Requires Magic in the Blood]: Choose 1 sphere you know. You may either gain a bonus talent in that sphere, and add 1 to your caster level (to a max of your character level) for that sphere, or add 2 to your caster level (to a max of your character level) when casting from that sphere. You may select this multiple times, each time choosing a different sphere.
Scaled Hide [Requires Dragon Body]: Increase your natural armor by 1, stacking with other modifiers to natural armor. These scales are the color of your favored dragon.
Self-Worth: All Draconic Ascendants have forceful personalities, but you go beyond that.As an immediate action after failing a save against a mind-affecting effect, spend a daily Dragon Aspect use to reroll the save, adding your Charisma modifier. You cannot be forced to act against your nature. When manifesting The Heart aspect, no need to spend a daily Dragon Aspect use for the additional save.
Perfected Aspect: Choose one Dragon Aspect you can take on. If you use Dragon Aspect to manifest the chosen aspect at least once, you may do so as a swift action. You may select this trait multiple times, selecting a new Dragon Aspect each time.
Repulsion Breath [Requires Dragon's Breath]: Instead of a normal breath attack, breathe a cone of repulsion gas. Targets must make a Will save each turn or be compelled to use their move action to move away from the you for 1d4 rounds plus 1 round per 4 levels. This is a mind-affecting compulsion effect.
Weakening Breath [Requires Dragon's Breath]: When using Dragon's Breath, you may halve the HP damage dealt, but cause your breath weapon deal 1 Strength damage per 4 levels (Fort save negates). This damage can't reduce targets' Strength below 1, and heals at a rate of 1/minute. Spend 2 daily uses of Dragon Aspect when manifesting Dragon's Breath to keep the full HP damage and have a Fort save only halve the Strength damage.
Winged Mastery: Improve your maneuverability by 1, and increase effective size by 1 for the purpose of effects that would knock you out of the air, or stop your flight.
[More to come]
Magic in the Blood (EX): Dragons are the origin of magic. It is primal in their very nature. It must be so for you too. Choose one magical sphere you know. The Draconic Ascendant gains an extra talent in that sphere, and her effective caster level from this class increases to her class level, when casting from this sphere.
Dragon Body (EX): The Draconic Ascendant's skin begins to shift hue to that of a dragon's, as it becomes thicker and more robust. The Draconic Ascendant gains Toughness and Endurance.
Enhanced Physicality (EX): At level 7, the Dragon Ascendant becomes adept at getting the most out of her form. Choose either Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution. You gain a +2 inherent bonus to this score. This increases to +4 at 13th level, and +6 at 19th level.
Moderate Dragon Trait: You have tasted the power of the Great Ones for so long, and finally begin to sample it in earnest. At levels 8, 10, 12, and 14, you gain 1 Moderate Dragon Trait (see below). Unless otherwise specified, these are Permanent, Extraordinary effects which are now inherent to the Draconic Ascendant. Any effect that requires a save has a DC of (10 + 1/2 Draconic Ascendant level + Charisma modifier). You may also take a Lesser Dragon Trait in place of a Moderate one.
Aspected Traits: Choose two Lesser Dragon Traits which you didn't take, or can be taken multiple times. Any choices you need to make are made now. You may now manifest these traits through Dragon Aspect as though they were aspects.
Brine Fang [Required Fanged Aspect]: While manifesting The Fangs, you may spend a daily use of Dragon Aspect to empower your bite attack with 1d3 strength drain + 1 per 3 class levels, for the duration that you manifest (Fort save negates). This lasts until the end of your Dragon Aspect's duration, or until you manifest a new Dragon Aspect. Further, those taking damage from natural attacks gained from this class are sickened for 1 round while you benefit from Brine Fang.
Dragon's Scales [Requires Scaled Hide]: Increase Scaled Hide's natural armor bonus by 1/5 of Draconic Ascendant level. If you also have Jeweled Scales, you may also manifest The Scales as a Dragon Aspect. Your scales glow resplendently through embedded crystalline jewels. The first manifestation doubles the natural armor bonus this class provides. The second manifestation lets you deflect arrows and rays as though you had the Deflect Arrows, though you require no free hands. The third manifestation allows you to protect to an area of (10 feet per 3 natural armor bonus) around you with this Deflect Arrows. At the fourth manifestation, you may Deflect your Cha modifier in arrows and rays per round, and make a ranged attack roll, using your Charisma rather than Dexterity modifier, to attempt to send any deflected attacks back at the attackers.
Fire Fang [Requires Fanged Aspect, Destructive Maw blast shape]: While you have The Fangs aspect manifested, you may spend 2 daily uses of Dragon Aspect rather than a spell point to cast Destructive Maw without drawing an attack of opportunity. While you have Fanged Aspect manifested, Destructive Maw counts as a natural attack granted by this class.
Mobile Breath [Requires Dragon's Breath]: At any point during your movement, you may spend a standard action to make a breath weapon attack and then keep moving.
Jeweled Scales [Requires Dragon's Scales]: As part of gaining this trait, you must consume 1000 gp worth of precious gems, and sleep for a full day and night on top of the treasure you have accrued so far (and preferably more). Your natural armor applies to Touch AC.
Like a Fine Wine: You ignore age penalties to your physical scores. Increase your effective age category by one (Middle age -> Old -> Venerable), gaining the bonuses. Increase your maximum life span by 300. Gain +4 to saves against time-based effects. You may take this trait multiple times, and its bonuses stack.
Lasting Aspects: The duration of your aspects is doubled. You may take this trait multiple times. For every additional time you take this trait (up to twice), increase the duration of your Dragon Aspect by 1 step. (minutes -> hours -> days)
Magic Infused Blood [Requires Greater Magic Expression]: Choose two spheres. Gain either their base spheres, or a bonus talent in each. You may select this trait once every 4 levels after 4th (so at 8, 12 16 20); its effects stack.
Natural Aspect: Choose one non-trait aspect that you can manifest with Dragon Aspect. You now have that aspect as a permanent, extraordinary ability. Further, when you manifest the aspect, you increase your effective Draconic Ascendant level by 2 for the that aspect, and are considered to have manifested the aspect 1 more time than you actually did. (So, if you have Natural Aspect: The Claw, and manifest (Claw, Tail(x2) ), you are considered to have manifested Claw twice.) You may select this trait multiple times, each time selecting a new non-trait aspect.
Natural Proficiency: Attacks made with natural weapons gained from this class treat your Base Attack Bonus from this class (not including casting) to be equal to your class level. Further, add your Charisma modifier as a bonus to such attacks. This is also the case when using Martial Talents that rely on BAB, and when used with said natural weapons.
Slow Breath [Requires Dragon's Breath]: When using Dragon's Breath, you may, instead of doing damage, apply Slow, as the spell, to the targets (save negates) while you concentrate, up to 1 round per 4 levels. If any target fails the save, you may instead spend a daily use of Dragon Aspect to have it last for 1d4 + 1 round per 4 class levels without concentration.
Spell Fang [Requires either Alteration, Destruction or Death spheres]: You may make a single attack with a natural weapon gained from this class as a standard action. If this attack hits, you may also affect it with either a Ghost Strike, Destructive Blast, or Alteration talent. You must pay any pay any spell points as appropriate, and an equal number of daily uses of Dragon Aspect. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
[more to come]
Dragon Friend/Foe: At this point, you can demand an audience with almost any dragon, for weal or woe. When you reach level 11, choose whether you are a friend or foe to dragon kind. If you're a friend, dragons need to roll a will save DC (14 + 1/2 Draconic Ascendant level + Charisma) or be unable to knowingly attack you, unprovoked, and those that do attack tend to give a warning before doing so. (A sufficiently bad reputation for slaughtering dragons can be considered 'provoking' them.)
If you're a foe, you instead have a Frightful Presence of radius 30 ft per 4 class levels, at the above save DC. This only affects dragons, but ignores any immunity or bonus against mind-affecting/fear effects they may have.
Regardless of your choice, local dragons probably know you (even if you don't know them), and those within the region have likely heard of you.
Dragon Instincts: At level 14, you truly start to become one with the dragon, gaining +1 inherent bonus to Reflex and Fortitude saves each level until 20 (at which point the bonus is +6).
Greater Dragon Trait: Finally, the power is yours to grasp - neigh, your power is what the dragons look in awe at. At levels 16, and each 2 levels thereafter, you gain 1 Greater Dragon Trait (see below). Unless otherwise specified, these are Permanent, Extraordinary effects which are now inherent to the Draconic Ascendant. Any effect that requires a save has a DC of (10 + 1/2 Draconic Ascendant level + Charisma modifier). You may also take a Moderate or Lesser Dragon Trait in place of a Greater one.
Greater Aspected Traits: Choose two Moderate or Lesser Dragon Traits which you didn't take, or can be taken multiple times. You may now manifest these traits through Dragon Aspect as though they were aspects. Any choices you need to make about the traits are made at the start of each day.
Storm of Might and Magic [Requires Spell Fang]: Whenever you successfully hit with a natural weapon gained from this class, you may affect the target with any sphere effect you know that targets a single creature. You must spend the spell points as normal for those sphere effects, but do not provoke attacks of opportunity.
Sight Beyond Sight: Gain 30 ft blindsight. Also gain blindsense out to 60ft + 5ft per 3 Draconic Ascendant levels.
True Embodiment [Requires Natural Aspect]: Choose one aspect you have as a Natural Aspect. You now have that aspect as a permanent, extraordinary ability, with extra effects as though you had manifested the aspect the maximum number of times you can at your level +3.
[More to come]
Perfected Form: To gain Perfected Form, you must consume at least 10,000 gold worth of valuables, and sleep on a pile of at least 200,000 gold pieces. Thereafter, your type changes to be Humanoid and Dragon at the same time. You can only be affected by non-harmless effects that could target both types. You increase or gain darkvision 60 feet, blindsight 30ft, and immunity to sleep and paralysis effects. You also gain a Spell Resistance equal to 8+Draconic Ascendant level+Charisma modifier, or increase your existing Spell Resistance by your Charisma modifier.
Gain the effects of the Draconic Form Lesser Dragon Trait. If you already have the trait, you may select gain different Lesser Dragon Trait. Choose a form for your Draconic Form (complete with alteration traits). This form, as well as your original one, are considered your "true form" for all purposes, and it takes no spell points to swap between the two. You may change your Draconic Form every day that you sleep on your pile of treasure, worth at least 100,000 gold.
Author's notes:
Spell Fang is clearly a power creep on Energy Blade and Cryptic Strike. Perhaps. But I'd argue that the restriction to natural weapons, meaning you can't use guns for touch attack, is notable. Further, if it's going to require you to be in melee to use it, it really *should* allow you to do so without provoking.
Why do you have such a pointless "Class feature" as Dragon Friend/Foe? Because I wanted to add in a fluff piece where there was a dead level. The power is in the Dragon Traits, primarily.
Wow, Perfected Form is such an overloaded level 20 ever. Well, aside from spell casting, I assume you mean. And...level 20 is basically the highest you can be before going Epic, and challenging gods. The fact that other level 20 capstones aren't more powerful is more the issue.
Only the most foolhardy would fail to fear the power of dragons - their ancient knowledge, impenetrable scales, and searing breath. Yet, from fear rises a primal desire within all beings - the longing to harness the strength of their greatest adversaries for themselves. Countless have tried, and nearly all have fallen short. But now, the secrets unfurl before you. Your life as a mere mortal draws to a close. Your throne among the skies awaits.
