...for D&D?

Personally, I enjoy listening to atmospheric music (https://whitepaintedwoman.wordpress.com/2015/09/14/music-monday-derek-brandon-fiechter/), which rarely fails to get me fired up for adventuring in a fantasy world. There's nothing that screams "magical monster-filled lair" or "bright little hamlet" than the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, as another example.

So, how about everyone else? Do you do the same? Do you have a favorite OST you listen to? Do you do other things to get your imagination and die-rolling muscles primed?

So, drugs and garbage-for-food? Not a positive showing, so far.

This. I am completely addicted to this game and don't show any signs on getting better.

Like other things if you go 2 weeks - 6 months between sessions it doesn't take much.

Neither of those are drugs....and where as I don't like pretzels it's not the worst thing most gamers eat lol.

noun: drug; plural noun: drugs
a substance taken for its narcotic or stimulant effects, often illegally.Looks like alcohol qualifies to me.

I find "mood music" for TTRPGs incredibly annoying.

But then I could say the same about background music in almost anything else. There are computer games I've played for hundreds of hours and have NO idea what the music sounds like, because I turned it off before I ever started playing. Same with the "ambient" track. I don't need to hear the wailing of my peasants as I kill them off via the whip in Civilization.

Okay, well when it's put in that light yeah it can be considered a drug...I probably have more to say but I really don't want to go that direction and I'll just end with you're right, but still it's not the worst things that can be done to get ready for a game.

So you don’t drink coffee? Tea? Soda? Get over yourself

To actually answer the question, I’m basically always in the mood for RPGs in general, but the prepare for DMing I have a big meal (my low blood sugar tends to make running long sessions hard otherwise) then lay my notes out and blast my “brainstorming” playlist while pacing around mentally reviewing NPCs, story beats, etc. I almost always catch something previously missed or get excited about a new hook in this pregame ritual.

I could play any time any day. If I'm sleeping, wake me up, and I'll immediately start playing. If I'm on the toilet, call me on speaker phone, and I'll shout out my actions in between poops. If I'm at work, I'll induce myself to vomit so I can pretend to go home sick. I am always ready to game. :smallamused:

As a player, reading D&D campaign stories, or even just reading the srd ("wow, I can't wait to use that class/feat/spell!". As a GM, thinking about how I could fit cool content into my campaign. Notably, reading any article by the Angry GM gets me fired up, eager to run sessions and improve as a GM to offer my players the best game I can.

Must also echo this. It either never leaves, or takes basically nothing--a gesture, a stray thought, a funny thing someone said--to get me "in the mood."

The thing I *like* to do for my DW games, though, is to ritually invoke the session start. "Previously, on Dungeon World..." (Or for my current Arabian Nights type game, "Previously, on Jewel of the Desert..."/"Previously, in the Desert...") Everyone's already good to go, that's just the signal that I'm speaking with DM voice now.

Agreed. Much like eating (good) pizza, it's a simple status check:

Am I dead?

Am I sick?

Am I in the middle of s...something?

If the answer to these is "no", then, yes, I'm in the mood.

I know you love pastries. Did you ever happen to team up with a certain perpetually bald human that managed to steal 40 cakes? Because that's horrible.

Officially joining the "I was born ready" bandwagon.

Battle for Wesnoth (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5gIr9B5-kU) has some good tracks, though (read: All of Them).

All but the missing work part or the poop parts.

If I like the game. However I do not get invited to many.

After playing for so long since 2E, nowadays I'm only willing to play on days that end in a "y".
