Playing a 3.0 campaign that is strict Dragonlance. Any chance that there is perhaps some summoner stuff in there? The DM does not know of anything and all he had to offer was the Academy Sorcerer, which isn't going to help. I was hoping the wealth of knowledge here might be able to do something.

If you want to play a mage in a strict Dragonlance campaign, then (in most eras of play) your only non-fatal option is to play a Wizard and then go into the Wizard of High Sorcery PrC. If you're looking at a summoner-type build, note that you can't actually be a Conjurer if your DM is being strict about things. You have to specialize in Abjuration or Divination (if going for White robes), in Illusion or Transmutation (if going Red), or in Enchantment or Necromancy (if going Black). Your barred schools have to come from opposing robes, so you cannot specialize in Conjuration (or Evocation), but also cannot ban either. You're probably best off going with Abjuration, Illusion, or Transmutation. You don't really need Enchantment or Necromancy for more minionmancy if you're already investing resources in Conjuration, so then the only question is if you can bear the thought of not having any Abjuration spells above 3rd level. Besides that, much of your build is decided for you. You have to max out ranks in Spellcraft for the first 4 levels of Wizard, and pick Spell Focus in your specialized school and a metamagic or item creation feat (besides Scribe Scroll which of course you get for free). If you're looking to be a summoner who can buff said summons, go Transmuter and pick up Extend Spell (to make your mooks last longer). That's probably the best choice if you're just picking from core. Assuming you're Human, that leaves one feat before entering the PrC, probably Spell Focus (Conjuration) so you can pick up Augmented Summoning at 6th. Magic of Independence is probably your best bet for your first Order Secret. Hope this helped!

Yeah uhhhh, that's far too complicated. I like smooth summoner builds where you just build to meet prerequisites for a PrC that had dope time and buffs, like Sea Witch or Bonded Summoner.

Kinda the point SLOTHRPG95 was making is this is not really supported in pure Dragonlance-using strict Dragonlance plus Core 3 rulebooks, the Thaumaturgist PRC is basically the only summoning support there is. As much as people rag on Dragonlance for running material however they want, in crunch terms the heavy restrictions on magic are very accurate to the fluff of the setting. In Dragonlance, people use summoning regularly, but no one specializes in it-most magic is drawn from the very active Gods who determine the focus of their organizations, and that is reflected in the rules rather well. By and large, Conjuration gets the short end of the stick on Krynn-Evocation has at least some support via Sorcerer PRCs, and the other 6 schools are specialties of the 3 Robed Orders.

Just had a quick question before I offered suggestions: Is your DM using the other 3rd party Dragonlance Sourcebooks created by Sovereign Press? Or is it just using the official Dragonlance Campaign Setting book only?
