If I move 30' and cast Fly, do I then have 30' of flying left that round?

According to page 190, yes you can do exactly that.

Using Different Speeds
If you have more than one speed, such as your walking
speed and a flying speed, you can switch back and forth
between your speeds during your move. Whenever you
switch, subtract the distance you've already moved from
the new speed. The result determines how much farther
you can move. If the result is 0 or less, you can’t use the
new speed during the current move.
For example, if you have a speed of 30 and a flying
speed of 60 because a wizard cast the fly spell on you,
you could fly 20 feet, then walk 10 feet, and then leap
into the air to fly 30 feet more.

So, you move 30ft and cast the spell. At this point, you now have two movement speeds. You switch from walk to fly movement speed, so you subtract the 30 walking distance from the 60 total fly speed and result in 30 feet that you can fly.

Or better yet Ride a horse get your 120 ft dash from the horse and then fly off it's back.

Looks bad ass

Don't forget to toss the reins to one of the terrestrial players

Umm no.

Read response two and the quote regarding multiple movement speeds. You subtract what you have moved already from whatever the other movement rate is ... so if you move 120' and then cast fly you have zero movement left since 60 - 120 < 0 -> 0.

In the OP case, the fly spell has a move rate of 60' so if they move 30' then they still have 30' left for flying. If they had somehow moved 60' before casting fly then they would have zero movement left for flying since they had already moved 60'.

Movement speeds are not additive.

You're missing the point: per the mounted combat rules, riding a mount consumes the mount's movement, not yours.

Getting off the mount consumes half your movement though, unless you're a Cavalier or something.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. I haven't used the mounted combat rules so wasn't aware of it. Presumably if you cast fly while mounted you would have 30' of movement remaining since dismounting uses half of your available movement.
