I'm making some "videogame" type one shots for some friends. I need to build a black ops team so that they can attempt to get through them. They will each get to pick a character and attempt the one shot in different ways (even so far as having save points).

Cleric (Trickery) 2/ Rogue (Inquisitive) 4

Code Name: Distraction

Feats: Actor and Dungeon Delver

Skills: Religion, Insight, Perception, Deception, Performance, and Persuasion.

Side Note: This is the one that walks up to a group of people to start talking about how to save their souls. Distraction can pretend to be whatever religion they want to, but the key to the con (if going this route) is to visit a few times and leave literature. Distraction also works as the "hostage negotiator" even if there isn't a hostage involved. Sometimes Distraction will be at the front of the party in order to make sure traps don't overcome the party.

Thanks to Dungeon Delver and Inquisitive Rogue, Distraction can smell a trap like no one's business.

Sorcerer (Shadow) 6

Code Name: Support

Feats: Spell Sniper and Skulker

Metamagic: Subtle and Empower

Skills: Acrobatics, Stealth, Insight, Survival, and Deception.

Side Note: Support can go with Shield and Pain, stay with Distraction, or be the in between. Should find a hidden place to snipe. So, why Empower over Twin? You can cast invisibility out of the 3rd level slot in order to hit both Pain and Shield for maximum awesome sneaky times. However, this sorcerer needs a bit of boost on their damage and Empower is a cheap way to get a boost.

Warlock (Hexblade) 3/ Rogue (Mastermind) 3

Code Name: Pain

Feats: Alert

Invocations: Improved Darkvision, Improved Tome

Skills: Acrobatics, Stealth, Arcana, History (Pain and Shield need a common interest while spending so much time together), Investigation, and Perception.

Side Note: Bonus Action to give Shield adavantage on their first attack pretty much all the time. Sneaks into places with the help of Shield. Has a +10 to initiative and can't be surprised. Also can cast rituals so probably has a familiar, can purify food/drink, and has Tiny Hut ready to go.

Fighter (Purple Dragon Knight) 6

Code Name: Shield

Fighting Style: Protection

Feats: Prodigy (Stealth), Heavy Armor Master, Sentinel

Skills: Athletics, Stealth, History, Perception, and Survival

Side Note: Most of the time, Shield will be under the effects of the Trickery Domain's advantage to stealth when following with Pain. Now, that meams the advantage and disadvantage equals out as a wash... So expertiise in stealth goes a long way. Both Protection and Sentinel are nice for this one as the main job is to keep Pain alive or at least make sure pain can run away, Shield can wait for Support if things go really far south. Shield can help heal a bit as long as someone can see OR hear shield.

Also, protection works well with sentinel. If an enemy attacks Pain and that enemy hasn't been damaged yet, chances are one attack won't kill it to stop the attack on Pain (unless it's a nook, judgement call) so use protection to give Pain a chance to not take damage. If the enemy has been beaten a bit, sentinel attack will work wonders as it may drop the enemy.

Pain will have an Owl familiar so Shield doesn't need to grant advantage to Pain for Pain's attacks. So, shield master isn't needed and plus prodigy went toward stealth and not athletics. Owl > Help, Pain Attack, Pain BA Help, Shield attack, Shield Attack... Rinse and repeat with Support and Distraction being somewhere around.

I find Shield to be the funniest of the group, a plate mail sneak XD. Trickery domain teamwork ftw.
