A thread on the first page gave me an idea. For the Arcane Trickster's Feature, Magical Ambush, is it possible to cast Minor Illusion to make a darker area with "shadows," Cunning Action hide, and cast Hold Person or Hypnotic Pattern? Would Skulker be necessary to do this?

Minor illusion can only, visually, create images of objects. You cannot use Minor Illusion to dim or erase the light in an area. You could likely make something like a black cube, but, barring unusual circumstances, it isn't going to look like anything other than a black cube.

Skulker let's you hide when you are lightly obscured. If your illusion need only make light obscument such as, some foliage, mist, a person one size larger.

You can't cast Minor Illusion to create shadows. Minor illusion creates an image of a non-moving object of 5'x5' or smaller.

That said, you can use Minor Illuison to crate an image of a bush, or a barrell or a rock or a chair and hide behind that.
