Has there been any recent statement on the arcane tradition of theurgy? Or any other reason to think that they are/aren't still working on it?

I think that I like the idea of a theurgy wizard more than that of an arcana cleric.

To my knowledge, it hasn't been mentioned as part of the subclasses they're working on.

I believe that there is a cleric domain that gives wizard abilities. There is also the divine soul sorcerer. I think this may be the only Theurgy types 5e offers.

Would a theurgy wizard be able to copy cleric spell scrolls into his/her spellbook? Sounds promising.

Here is the version that appeared in previous UA: Wizard Revisited (https://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/MJ320UAWizardVF2017.pdf) and The Faithful (https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/UA%20Non-Divine%20Faithful%20SFG.pdf).

The mechanics were pretty strange, with features that straight-up give you another class' features, except later or in one case sooner.

Yeah, I feel that they tried a bit too much with Theurgist's abilities, which made it clunky and strange.

I may be wrong (and I hope I am) but it seems I recall someone saying they'd scrapped the idea altogether.

...

Which means we'll have to homebrew it! ^^

A generalist wizard seems the most likely but also most hazardous next step.

Id like to see more specialists like blood mage, fatespinner, geometer, etc. Otherwise we’ll likely end up with a ‘default’ wizard that doesnt really expand thematic possibilities.

But a divine wizard doesnt really seem all that special with that we have and what you’d have to do to implement it.
