What happens to character positions when a character is constricted?

Couatl's have the ability to constrict a character which results in them restrained (and grappled). But the couatl's constrict ability has a range of 10. To me it doesn't make sense to be able to constrict another creature and still be 10 feet away. Should they now occupy the same position on the battle map, or be adjacent at least? Should the couatl be able to move around while holding on to their target?

Couatls don't have to use their whole body to constrict, though I would rule that they are in both squares and the area in between for purposes of attacking them. As for movement, they have the same restrictions on movement while grappling that anyone else does.
