I’m looking for something wistful and forlorn, a female voice lamenting in an ancient tongue, echoing plaintively across the hills and moors, just the sort of thing to lure a man down to his doom.

Vocal-only would be preferred, but quiet instruments are okay if they add to the mood. Nothing too blatantly sinister; this should be something that tugs at the heart-strings a little, that makes the listener believe in the lament. Any suggestions along these lines?

Thanks, but not really the mood I'm going for. I'd like something haunting and eerie; this is a little too optimistic.

Any suggestions with a more Celtic feel?

You said 'lamenting in an ancient tongue'. Am I correct in presuming you're looking for songs that aren't sung in English? Maybe Enya: Aniron or Dan Y Dwr. Jillian Aversa's performance of Lament of the Highborne? That's pretty stringy though, much of traditional music I'm familiar with from the island incorporates some form of instruments. Try Róisín Dubh -- see if you can maybe find Caitlín Maude?
