So I'm going to be a Samsaran wizard, with the Mystic Past Life alternate racial trait. I get six spells from my past life, not all at first level. For story reasons this mystic past life is going to be a witch so I'll have spells from the Witch spell list. I ask your advice, do I load up with early level spells, or spread out the power? My wizard will be an Evocation specialist who will take Necromancy and Illusion as his opposition schools. Thanks for your input!

How long is the campaign and at what level do you expect to finish? I’d split up the spell levels - you only have that many spell slots at low level anyway and a Wizard has no shortage of good spells even at low level. When you hit height levels and therefore have more spell slots at your disposal, some of the low level spells might become less relevant.

I mean, the clear choice would be to take Witch spells that Wizards simply don't have access to like healing. Anything else is only saving a minor amount of cash or a leveling spell slot.

If your GM doesn't have magic marts, and you know for a fact that you'll want 3 particular 3rd level spells at 5th level (for example), then it would make sense to grab a regular Wizard spell, but otherwise, diversify.

Good question, I'll find an answer.

Yes, I think CLW will be one of the choices, just so I have it and can make scrolls and wands of it.

Let me find out how long this homebrew is expected to run and then I can make strategic choices.

Thanks folks!

Seconding the above-you don't want to add spells to levels you never reach, and witches get access to a lot of cleric/druid spells that wizards do not, namely healing and protection.

As for specific spells
The humble guidance is a level 0 spamtrip if nobody else in the party can.

Ill omen is 1st level witch only that is a very strong debuff, even without enchantment focus.

Even though you opposed necromancy, death ward is a powerful spell to have on your list.

Find the path is a fantastic 6th level spell. Control weather, regenerate and storm of vengence are good if you get up into the higher levels.
