I recently got a very nice-looking custom avatar from Linkele, but when I tried to change it to my avatar, it just came out blank. How does this generally work?

Thanks for the assistance.

Can you post the url of the avatar you are trying to use, please?

In the past, similar request have had a number issues: the host might not allow 3rd party calls; the url might contain invalid characters; the picture might not be the correct size tend to be the most common.

Part of the problem is that I don't know where to find the URL. I just saw a picture of it.

Then there is your problem. You cannot link to an avatar if you don't have it's URL. Can you at leat give me the link to where you saw the picture?

I found out the problem.

The URL is too long to fit into the space where I have to input it.

In that case, you should rehost it on a different site that uses a shorter url.

...
There should be a couple of threads around that say what sites are good to use.

How do I do that?

I'm not very good with computers.

1. If you do not have the image saved to your computer, do that first: Open that link you have, right click on the image, choose 'save image as' or equivalent option.
2. Check out for example this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?567844-Anyone-know-a-good-image-hosting-site) thread for potential image hosting sites.
3. Go to the chosen site where you will find some button that says 'Upload pictures' and choose the image from your computer you saved before.
4. The site should provide you now with a choice of options to share this picture. I guess copying the complete URL from something labeled 'direct link' or 'BBCode' is the best option. Just the URL, as described in the avatar settings: "The URL must start with http:// and the avatar must end in .gif, .jpg or .png."

It seems to have worked, thank you!

Which image hosting site did you use, and how hard was it to do?

To elaborate: You can find the hosting site by right clicking on any avatar, choosing 'show image' and checking the adress bar of your browser. ImgBB is pretty straightforward to use.
