View Full Version : Dr Mcninja: losing steam?

Ye old Dr. Mcninja, medical ninja supreme.

The strip lost quite a bit of steam though once Hans was defeated and the zombies started running around. Maybe it's just me, but I just don't find our good doctor funny anymore...

I agree, on the other hand, we get more ben, which is always good.

Yes, but right now I'm not finding Ben to be very funny...

We could have potential with Beeman, but we shall see.

I think that he is building up to something. The undead ninja theme was a bit of a stretch, but I think he will make up for it with beeman.

I thought that he was actually an elf the first time I read the latest comment, and the whole comic seemed like such a non sequitor, I loved it.

The answer to the question posed in the thread title is, "No."

Because Beeman is awesome. Besides, the comic where Dr. McNinja killed the girl's zombie grandpa was hilarious.

While I don't find it as consistantly funny/awesome as it once was, it still makes me laugh fairly regularly. I mean, This one (http://drmcninja.com/page.php?pageNum=29&issue=8) made me laugh more than any other one he's ever done. Well... maybe not more than any other one, but it still made me laugh.

It does feel to be loosing steam; however, but only when held to the standard of how amazing it usually is. It's still funny, and still heads and shoulders above most other webcomics (and comics in general).

Dr McNinja gives me more laughs per page than any other comic I read (web or otherwise). There's something about the dry humour of it that I love. The sequence that ends on this page (http://drmcninja.com/page.php?pageNum=39&issue=8) is probably my favourite, the way it all just builds up and then Judy and the good doctor do their victory dance.

So awesome.

There's something about the art these days that doesn't sit well with me. Maybe it's the grey. I think I liked it better when it was straight black-and-white. It had a great noir feel to it, which just added to the humor.

Personally, I think Dr. McNinja is still going strong. The lack of an exciting plot at the moment makes it seem like it's lagging, but I'm still laughing.

Yay! I thought fellow Dr. McNinja fans were a myth, like North Dakota and the government. And no matter what, an irish ninja-doctor cannot lose steam. That would be breaking the laws of physics.

While it may be losing 'steam', it is still funny. It's just kinda.... Jumping the shark.

The Extinguisher
2007-11-21, 01:56 AM
I disagree. The whole concept behind Dr. McNinja is that they passed the shark four minutes before the jump and are just flying sweetly through the air.

At this point, it would have to release flesh-eating beetles into my house before I seriously considered marking it down.

The first issue involved a disease that turns a small boy into a giant lumberjack. "Issue Zero" had the good doctor defeating an evil fast food mascot with an invisible bazooka.

And now you think it's jumping the shark?

I swear, nobody actually knows what that terms means, yet they use it all the time.

But Dr. Mcninja never had turn-based combat...

On topic and not referencing Zero Punctuation, No. It's just as awesome as ever.

This comic couldn't jump the shark.

If it tried, it would find its' shark to be a super-powered bionic commando super-shark which would tear anything to shreds.

On a motorcycle.

The only shark jumping here involves said shark high-fiving Judy, the gorilla.

The good part is, although he went to 'deep, dramatic background', he managed to turn that in a great humor material!

Oh, please, you don't have to be a manga/anime fan to get THAT reference.

But, if you want to go that route...

Actually, anyone who's read any
Dracula

Dracula

I think it would have been a better reference if he was named Vladimir Tepesh.

It would reflect a more 'modern' name, one that SOUNDS legal, but still hark back to the Real Being Behind The Name.

The thing is, Alucard is very blatantly Dracula backwards, so Dr McNinja's reaction at Franklin's cluelessness needs no explanation.

(Anyway, everyone knows that in Hellsing it's Arucard because, hey, Engrish. It's Dracura backwards.)

I'll be honest, with this talk of a creepy Eastern Europe billionaire interested in mad science projects, I expected Dr Doom.

Actually, same here. However, Dr. McNinja seems to exist in a reality where Batman is real, and therefore, Doom probably isn't. Unless its some kind of crossover 'Verse.

Who said I read Hellsing? A quick google for "Alucard" and "Anime" and "Manga".... then do a quick review of the ones that come up the most... then look at the image results...

While I would have to agree that I don't enjoy reading the comic nearly as much as I did, I still have a feeling that it's just going through a phase, if you will. I think it'll get back on track.......or we'll hafta krump 'im!

Possibly it's a reference to Forever Knight. One of the characters in that show was an ancient French Vampire Master named LaCroix. Maybe not though, that LaCroix didn't look anything like the one in Dr. McNinja.

Well, I guess for a long time now nobody has any doubts that DrMcninja is not losing any steam.
The current plot is about a pirate-hating ninja medic going to meet Dracula with the clone of Benjamin Franklin acting like a hair-eating zombie and in fear of turning into the headless horseman, while simulatenously his Irish ninja family clan team up with a mustachioed gun-slinging teen to take down a ghost wizard for the Catholic Church.

How can anyone consider that to be losing steam?

what the hell is that crazy ninja up to now?

Why, he's grapple-jumping from the passengers' lavatories to the pilots' one, and will then ninja-sneakily cut the pilot's hair (http://drmcninja.com/page.php?pageNum=37&issue=10) ("What Ben sees is a man with dreadlocks made of fried chicken legs") to bring them back to Ben Franklin, of course.
