doing a 36 pt build for a campaign starting up soon.

lesser plane touched mechanatrix Starting level 5.

The short Question, when I go Incantatrix 1 at 6th, do I give up Necromancy or Evocation?

I was thinking Evoc, but with the electric heals, I am thinking he will play with lots of lightning bolts originating on point of his square BEHIND him, passing through him, to the targets (heals and damages) giving up evocation, loosing that trick.

So, Give up Necro, or Evocation.

Current build

S- 8
D 14
C 18
I 23 (including a +2 headband)
W 8
Chr 6

Toad for familiar for now.

Flaw- Vulnerable (-1 ac)
Flaw- Noncombatant (-2 melee)
1- Extend Spell
Flaw bonus- Improved Initiative
Flaw bonus- Invisible Spell
3- Craft Wondrous Item
5 (Wiz Bonus) - Craft Wand
(using crafting to create his own items cheaper, but likely no more crafts after this, -maybe rod- LEADERSHIP cheese not allowed)

oh yeah, forgot to include Trait: Aggressive +2 initiative/ -1 AC
Otyugh Hole (3,000gp) : Iron Will

6th Persistent spell (duh)
then, have a list of feats I am looking at down the road.

Build outs likely

(GM says this could go to 17+)

Wiz 5 Incantatrix 3 (6th-8th) Iot7FV 7(9th-15th) Incantatrix 8 (16th-20th)

Or W5/Inc3/Iot7FV 7/Archmage 2/Inc 3.

Toad for familiar for now.Familiars are extreme liabilities. Either give yours up for an ACF and avoid taking one completely, give it up for an ACF and take Obtain Familiar so it scales with your PrCs, or take a familiar that gives extra functionality. +3 hp is absolutely nowhere near as useful as a talking raven (or parrot) familiar that can UMD items for you and rain death from above with wands. Because they can fly. Y'know, away from danger? Because getting your familiar thwacked is a huge penalty, and having to wait more than a year just to get hold of another liability sucks no matter how you look at it.

I agree on the Raven to replace toad as familiar. The utility is much nicer than the +3 HP. I am guessing this will be a high powered campaign? The build looks fine. Any idea what kinds of enemies you'll be facing? Do you want to deal damage mainly, blaster style? Necromancy and evocation clearly have different uses. Think about what your campaign world is like and it will help you decide. I believe a lot of things higher level start negating much of the Necromancy school. Of course, the elemental damages can be negated as well.
