So, I find that how I hold computer mice leads to hand pain. Not sure if I am holding them wrong or what. I want to try a mouse that is large enough to rest my palm on the mouse with my wrist straight and my fingers resting on the buttons. I think a mouse 5 - 6 inches long would do the trick, but I am having a hard time finding a mouse that large. Mostly, I am having a hard time sorting mice by size and getting an actual size out of online stores. Does anyone have suggestions for finding a larger mouse? Alternatively, suggestions about improving the ergonomics of my computer use in general are appreciated.

I just measured my mouse (Logitech G400 gaming mouse) and it's 13cm long, which is a smidgeon over 5 inches. I don't know if those are still available at a reasonable price, or if the more modern variants (e.g. Logitech G403) are just as large.

If you find one at a reasonable (cheap) price, please post about it, I'm definitely also looking (and not finding :( ).

My Sharkoon FireGlider Black (I love typing that out, sounds completely prodiculous) is around 12.8 cm according to my ruler. So around that size is probably kind of the standard for gaming inspired mice.

There are a bunch of supposedly more ergonomic mouse designs out there. It might be worth finding a store where you can try a few of those out, if your search for a larger mouse doesn't pan out. They're not what you're looking for, but they might solve the problem you're trying to solve.

I like the Logitech M705. But the G400 and other G's are larger.

But, don't look to the mouse size to be your solution. It's more about your chair and surface height. Your forearm and wrist should be straight or in a neutral position. I like to use gel pads to support my forearm near my wrist to help keep the neutral position. There are hundred of different types to choose from (plus you can find ones filled with other things), a simple search gives; https://www.google.com/search?q=mouse+gel+wrist+pad&num=30&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS784US785&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjgzt6uxrbfAhUO2FQKHfHVBBYQsxgILQ&biw=1303&bih=589

I haven't watched this video, but it should be good; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3uBJdW6Akk

You could also look into getting a vertical mouse, since these are said to be more ergonomic. I have no personal experience beyond using it a few times (it works fine, no training or adjustment required), but a friend of mine who has to use a mouse a lot during work and suffered from wrist pain for years found that it helps them a lot.

What are your thoughts on trackballs? A good one will fit your criteria pretty well, but some don't like em.

Can't stand them. Also, my wife uses this computer and I don't think she likes them any more than I do.

And an update: I went out to all the computer retailers in the area I could think of. They all had the same selection of mice that were all between 3 and 5 inches long. Even the beefy gaming mice were about an inch shorter than I am looking for. Looks like I will have to 3D print an expansion for a mouse.

All of this is good information, but as someone who also has VERY large hands I can attest that ergonomics will not completely solve the problem.

OP, I personally have the Logitech G700 (Product Dimensions: 3.7 x 5.5 x 8.3 inches) and can attest that the size helps. Good ergonomics at your desk is important, but having a larger mouse helped me a lot on top of that. I dread the day that it dies (I've gone in and manually repaired the button contacts already lol) because I don't think I can go back to a smaller mouse after having this one for like 5 or 6 years+.

I've used one of Logitech's trackball mice, and I think they're definitely more ergonomic and comfortable to use than regular mice.

Are you talking about this product (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001436-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B003VAM32E)? Because that is about 10 times my maximum budget. I might be able to swing the refurbished model. Still, assuming it actually is 8.3 inches long, it is literally the first lead that isn't "3D print a mouse extension."

I like the good ones. And by that I mean:

Back in the days of the ball mice, or even the 1980s, Logitech used to make something called the Mouseman, that some people called a rat, because it was so much bigger than a mouse.

So far as I know, they stopped making them before there were wireless mice of any sort.

That's weird, because I had a pretty good experience with the M570. Looks goofy as all hell, but it stood up just fine for me.

Rockphed, here (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001799-Wireless-Trackball-M570/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1545629530&sr=1-4&keywords=trackball+mouse) is a link for the M570. I'm sure this is in your budget - especially at the current discount.

While I will agree that $345 for a mouse is ridiculous, you really should bear in mind that you're going to be interacting with whatever miouse you get an awful lot. I'd therefore say that boosting your budget above $35 is something you should consider. Mice, keyboards and power supplies are the three things in your computer setup you should never cheap out on, IMHO.

Check if you can get your hands on the Saitek Cyborg R.A.T.
Its adjustable to almost any hand Type, really.

And seconding the above post. While paying over 300 bcks for an outdated Oldy from Logitech is of course out of the question, if you do more than occasionally surf the Internet AND already have pain, you should really not cap your mouse budget below 100 (mind, I am not saying you HAVE to spend that much, just that you MIGHT have to^^).

I usually go between campus and my apartment a whole lot, and I sometimes travel between college and home for the holidays - and I use a 30 dollar mouse for most of it, and I keep a really cheap substitute mouse in the event that I ever lose my mouse.

Now, if it's for a home computer where the mouse is staying where it's at, sure, I'd say spend money on it - but I personally find that the difference in quality for a $30 dollar mouse (my logitech M510) and my more expensive Logitech Proteus G502 to be... not that much? I mostly do programming and email browsing, with some gaming - but even for games it doesn't make a huge difference.

Well, yeah, but I don't like trackball mice. They do tend to be a little bigger though.

That's fair. There's also those ergonomic "vertical" mice that I've seen, though I can't say if they're any good from personal experience.

To be fair,I haven't actually used one of those. I just judge it for trying to be both at once. If it works great, then I retract my judginess.

It isn't really both at once, but it looks like a regular mouse - I think it's mostly so you have the same feel of a mouse, but you use your index finger and thumb to move the trackball. You can just use either finger, but I found that using both gave me a lot of control. Pretty surprising, really.

Let me rephrase: I judge it for looking like it's trying to be both at once. I'm a mouse bigot. I should be shamed.
