whats the best class to play for dungeon of the mad mage

cant think of a character to play for DMM.

I want to play something that can contribute to combat but is good at RP
My dm is having use start at lv5 or 6

Gloomstalker's are deadly because there is almost no light.

Wizards are good because you are in a wizard dungeon.

Bards or charisma based characters who can speak different languages can talk to the different denziens of the undermountain. You don't have to fight every group of people if you are creative.

And now for everyone's favourite cop-out answer: what ever class fits your DM's style the best...
I know, I hate this answer too, but mostly because of how true it is.

Does the DM prefer one big fight per day over the 6-per-day model? Roll a wizard and go to town.
Short rest after every encounter? Coffeelock shenanigans.
DM's that encourage creative solutions, illusions and roleplay? Bards are literal GODS
Long grinds between rests with lots of combats? Get a high AC and higher HP, the spartan fighters are doing this phalanx style.
