I'm working on a Feat called, "Planar Knowledge."

+1 to INT (cannot increase beyond 20)
Player gets a new skill, Planar Knowledge, based in INT.
Player comes across an old journal that details the basics of the Planescape campaign. Just the basic. The journal details the city of Sigil, Portals, the Outlands, a few Factions, and the various Gate Towns.

Further the journal give the location of a nearby portal to Sigil, and three portals therein...leading to three locations of the player's choice (with DM approval). There is room for many more entries.
--------------------------------------------------------

OK, lets say you took this feat at 1st level.
What three locations would you choose?
-------------------------------------------------------

I would choose portals to
1) the gate town of Faunel (gateway to the beast lands), this would be my planar base of operations. I would set up a home there. The Beastlands do not interest me, but the gate town is a ruined city and all a person need do is set up a few tarps and call a ruin home (fixing up/rebuilding/repairing ruins brings bad consequences, but a tarp roof is OK.)

2) A casino in the city of Dionysus. the Las Vegas of the planes.

3) a village in the midst of Elysium. This would be a nice little place to retire to. I would just let the plane take me at the end.
----------------------------------------------------
OK your turn.

The feat offers one int and entry to the next adventure location. But the gm has likely already planned an adventure off-plane anyway. The access to the map and choosing a new base town is better done by gm pc cooperative campaign building than by asking the pc to spend a feat.

yeah the feat sucks, and you are right 100%.
Still, I am interested where people would go.

I'm assuming this is for 5th edition, but a 3rd edition feat along these lines might actually be balanced. Sort of a low-power Leadership, where you get access to a stronghold rather than a cohort/followers.

Well, we're adventurers. So, my first thought is:

-A feast hall on Arborea
-The domain of a friendly god of healing
-The library of a friendly god of magic and knowledge
